Oxford, UK

Important Information

Note

Travelling to the UK

If you're coming from abroad, remember to check your passport expiry dates and visa status! (American and Canadian citizens do not require a tourist visa, but must get an "ETA"; Indian and Chinese citizens need a visa.) We recommend flying to London Heathrow and taking "The Airline" () coach that takes you straight to Oxford.

Summer is the best time to be in Oxford! Temperatures are regularly 23°C / 73°F and the sun is often out (for once). Please plan accordingly – get your summer wardrobe out, sunnies on, maybe even pack a swimsuit! (Unfortunately, the tourists have also realised this, and July is prime Oxford tourism season.)

You may be able to get some of the medicines you are used to here, but please bring anything you expect to need. Brand names vary, and some medicines that are likely easy to get in your home country will be controlled here (e.g. melatonin). On that topic, hay fever (seasonal allergies) will be in full swing, so please remember to bring what you need.

Note

Hotel Options

Accommodation in Oxford is a bit of a nightmare, and we unfortunately couldn't find a good hotel big enough for all of us. We will be staying in a holiday home, and The Premier Inn, The Courtyard Marriott, and The Malmaison are all within 3 minutes walk of us and each other. We highly recommend you book one of these three.

FAQ

(How do we know they're frequently asked? Who has been doing the asking?)

When is the RSVP deadline?

Respond, if you please, at your earliest convenience. Please RSVP before 31st March.

Can I bring a date?

Please check your invite for your +1! If we haven't automatically given you one, feel free to message us.

Are kids welcome?

Please check your invite. If we haven't automatically included your kid(s), please message us.

Where should I park?

If you're driving in, use one of the Park & Rides near Oxford. That said, all the events will be in the city centre and walkable, and the UK has serviceable public transport, so we don't recommend bringing or renting a car. Parking in the city centre is horrendous and expensive.

Are the ceremony and reception locations wheelchair accessible?

Yes. Please let Jess or Neil know if there's anything we can do to help make things more accessible or comfortable for you!

What should I wear?

Please see our schedule for the dress code. In short: try to outshine the bride!

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

We'll have a mix of both. Again, see the schedule for details.

What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?

Do not wear skinny heels for the ceremony. I repeat, do not wear skinny heels! The baraat will pass over cobblestones, and the drinks reception will be in the Cloisters where there is a grassy area. Please wear chunky heels or sandals, or at least bring shoes you can dance in. Can't have any of you breaking any ankles. (If you would like to wear skinny heels to any other events, feel free to at your own risk, but we recommend a change of shoes.)

Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?

Yes! We would love for you to take photos and share them in the Wedding Photo Album. Please turn off your flash.

Whom should I call with questions?

If you have questions before the wedding, feel free to text either Neil or Jess. During the events, our wedding planner, Katie Baker, will be on hand to help.

Registry and 红包

Your presence truly the greatest gift to us! However, if you would like to give something, we would be most honoured if you participate in the Chinese tradition of 红包/利是 (hong bao/lai see), which we would be grateful to receive at the ceremony.

红包 translates to "red envelope", which is used to enclose monetary gifts – any amount is greatly appreciated, but consider including the lucky number 8 and avoiding the unlucky number 4! Don't worry about finding red envelopes - we will have plenty available at the Sangeet.

If you prefer, you may instead choose to donate to our fundraiser supporting three expert-vetted effective charities. We're raising money for Helen Keller International, GiveDirectly, and The Humane League. To let us know you've contributed, please complete the form linked on the fundraising page so we can thank you.

We are grateful for your presence, with or without a gift!

Story

Our first date, being during COVID, was an online date where we played chess. Jess beat Neil hands down, and they never played chess against each other again!
