Story

Chris moved to Missoula from New York in late summer 2021 for the MFA in fiction, a program which Nicole had just graduated from. They met in early fall through their shared literary community, and on April 22, 2022, they found themselves happy to be sitting next to each other on a Friday night at Flippers with mutual friends. Chris asked Nicole out that night, and the next evening they had their first date. Soon after, Chris went back to New York for the summer, but they spoke every day, and on June 26, Nicole flew out to meet him in Manhattan. A few days later they set out on a cross-country road trip back to their home in Montana, touring the western national parks and falling in love along the way.

Once they made it back to Missoula, they launched into multiple endeavors: Nicole began a new job, including lobbying during the 2023 legislative session. Chris tackled his lifelong fear of dogs by adopting Duke, Nicole's German Shepherd, while also finishing his 2nd year of the MFA and working on his novel.

On April 23, the one-year anniversary of their first date, Chris invited Nicole to join him outside on the patio of their room at The Lodge at Whitefish Lake, poured two glasses of champagne and got down on one knee and asked Nicole to marry him. It was the happiest moment of both of their lives when she said yes.

The dorkiest thing about us is

Our love of spreadsheets? Draft legislation?

We are regulars at

Bar Plata, Gild, Flippers, Plonk, Iron Horse, Southgate Mall

Getting In

We recommend flying into the Missoula Montana Airport!

Car

Getting Downtown

There a lots of ways to get into town from the airport! The airport is only 20 minutes from almost anywhere in Missoula, and there are several car rental options available in the airport. Lyft and Uber are also relatively inexpensive. We are also happy to come get you and take you to your hotel or AirBnB, so just give us a call if you need a ride!

Note

Getting around Missoula

Missoula is highly walkable depending on where you are staying. If you're near downtown, there are plenty of trails and walking paths to get to all of our destinations, including the BBQ (in the University District), ceremony, and lunch. The only destination that is out of the way is our wedding dinner location, which is at 102 Ben Hogan Dr. in Missoula's South Hills. We recommend taking a Lyft or Uber up there or having a rental car for that journey. Call us at 406-214-2680 if you need help arranging!

Q & A

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!

When is the RSVP deadline?

Please RSVP by July 1, so we can have an accurate headcount. :)

Can I bring a date?

We welcome your special person. Please just let us know in advance so we can plan a seat for them at lunch and dinner.

What will the weather be like?

Welcome to Montana! By fall the weather here can swing wildly. During the day in late September, the weather in Missoula should be beautiful, averaging 65, but will be chilly at night and in the morning. Please bring some warm layers for the evening!

Where should I park?

On weekdays until 5pm there is plenty of paid street parking downtown, near the Courthouse and the restaurants and bars in which we'll be celebrating. After 5pm and on the weekends parking is free!

What should I wear?

Cocktail attire (What is cocktail attire? Ultimately, it aims to strike a balance between formal and casual, as well as elegant and comfortable. For an event with this dress code, such as a wedding, men typically wear a suit and tie while women wear a cocktail dress.) If you still have doubts, you can read more here:

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Chris and Nicole are indoor people, so everything is indoors, although the BBQ will be outside, weather allowing.

What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?

Any dressy shoes you like for the wedding, keeping in mind that it may be chilly, especially at night.

Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?

Yes! We would love for you to take photos and share them on our app Joy.

Whom should I call with questions?

Please call Nicole at 406-214-2680, Chris at 631- 355-2590‬ or the mother-of-the-bride, Marbie, at 915-204-2014.
