Getting In
There are a few options for your flight.
The first is flying directly to the island. The other two options would be to fly into either Boston (BOS) or Providence, Rhode Island (PVD). Both are about an hour drive to Woods Hole, where you will catch the ferry.
Getting to the ferry
If you're flying into Boston there are a couple of options for transportation to and on the island.
You can rent a car at the airport, or you can take the Peter Pan Bus to the ferry at Woods Hole, which is just south of Falmouth, MA.
Last time I traveled to the Island, I used TURO to rent a car. This is like the AirBNB of car rentals. I think it's worth taking a look.
You can find details about ferry schedules with the operating company, called The Steamship Authority. The ferry does accommodate vehicles, and if you’re coming with a car, you’ll want to reserve your tickets ahead of time. You can reserve your tickets with a vehicle using the link above. Standard passenger vehicle tickets start at $59 each way.
If you’re not traveling with a car, you can purchase tickets through The Steamship Authority’s app. The adult tickets are $9.50 one way or $19 roundtrip. These don’t sell out nearly as easily as the vehicle tickets, so you can reserve these a bit more last minute if you need to.
The ferry leaves from Woods Hole and if you're staying in or near Aquinnah you will want to take the one that arrives in Oak Bluffs.
Summer is the high season on Martha's Vineyard. Please make your arrangements as soon as possible for the best rates and availability.
Paul and I will be renting a house in or near the town of Aquinnah.
There are many options for rentals such as Airbnb and VRBO. Tea Lane and Associates is a local rental agency Heidi Vanderhoop works here and can help.
The wedding will be in the town of Aquinnah with Chilmark and Menemsha being the closest neighboring towns.
If you are looking for a shorter stay, here are a few nearby places that rent rooms. The Menemsha Inn also rents cottages.
Places to eat
Things to do on the Island
A small fishing village within the town of Chilmark, Menemsha is best known as the principal location for Steven Spielberg's iconic film Jaws. Movie buffs can soak up the atmosphere while re-living scenes of the shark thriller. Everyone else can chow down on fresh-caught seafood at a choice of wharf-side restaurants. As you head out of town, be sure to climb the bluffs at Menemsha Hills for spectacular views across Vineyard Sound. The area is part of a protected nature reserve most suitable for sunset picnics.

There is a public parking lot on Aquinnah Circle but space is limited. Please carpool if possible.
What should I wear?
The dress code for our wedding is beach formal. Wear something you’re comfortable in—button-up shirts, long flowy dresses, or whatever brings you joy.
Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?
Our wedding ceremony is outdoors, but our reception will be in a tent :)
What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?
Calling all ladies! Do not wear stiletto heels. I repeat, do not wear stiletto heels. There are a bunch of grassy/dirt areas that you might have to walk in so wear chunky heels or sandals. Can't have any of you ruining nice shoes or breaking any ankles.
