Story

We met the first day of medical school at Johns Hopkins. We were each excited to start the next chapter of our careers, but we had no idea that it would be the most important day of our lives for another reason - the day we would meet our better half! Nicky was standing by the food table, and Sakib came over, picked up a bag of Lay's potato chips (that he never opened), and introduced himself. We instantly clicked. Later that day, a bunch of classmates went out for boba to get to know each other... but we accidentally spent the entire time only talking to each other. Multiple people asked us later if we had known each other before medical school. The sparks continued to fly then Sakib eventually asked Nicky out on a perfect first date that we still talk about to this day.

Fast forward to our fourth year of medical school, when Sakib surprised Nicky by proposing on his birthday (ultimate decoy). Because Nicky had no idea it was coming, the night before, she had actually planned a surprise party for Sakib with their medical school classmates (who knew the proposal was happening but played along to keep Sakib's cover)! Leading up to the proposal, Sakib recreated our first date down to every last detail. We went to same restaurant and two bars in the same order and took the same walk along the harbor in Fells Point that we did on that first date. Sakib had a close friend and semi-pro photographer (shoutout Nathan Yueh) hiding in a parking lot with his camera to capture the moment he got on one knee. To avoid having her accidentally spot Nathan, Sakib distracted a very gullible Nicky by saying that he heard that there were now jellyfish in the harbor and challenging her to find one. Competitor that she was, her eyes were glued on the harbor to her right and not on Nathan's car to her left, all while Sakib made sure they were in the perfect position for Nathan to get the shot. The rest is history!

Tidbits

Who made the first move? How?

Sakib, with irresistible charm and a bag of Lays potato chips.

What was your most memorable date?

Our first date in Baltimore! We went for dinner at Bottega in Station North then got drinks at Ouzo Bay and Loch Bar (foreshadowing our eventual move to Harbor East). We ended it with a walk along the water in Fells Point.

What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?

Greece! We're still reeling from our trip to Athens, Santorini, and Mykonos in fall 2024.

Where are you going for your honeymoon?

TBD, we're taking suggestions!

How did Sakib propose?

By re-creating our first date, using his birthday as a decoy!

We’re on the same page about

Everything.

We are regulars at

University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (lol... but seriously).

Who's going to take out the trash?

Someone else.

Travel

Plane

Airport

We recommend flying into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Note

How to Uber or Lyft from LAX

1. Open the Uber or Lyft app

2. Enter the current LAX airport as your pickup location.

3. Choose your ride type: Select the type of Uber or Lyft you want, such as UberX, XL, or a premium option.

4. Select LAX as your destination: Specify your destination from LAX, which will be the LAX-it pickup lot.

5. Find the LAX-it shuttle: Locate the free airport shuttle for rideshare services, usually found near baggage claim.

6. Get to the LAX-it lot: Take the shuttle or walk to the designated LAX-it pickup area.

7. Wait for your ride: Once at LAX-it, follow the signs and app instructions to find your designated pickup point and wait for your driver to arrive.

8. Enjoy your ride: Your driver will meet you at the designated area and you can get on your ride.

Car

Ground Transportation

It would be very feasible to use Uber/Lyft as your primary means of transportation throughout the weekend. This will get you to and from the airport as well as between any neighborhoods you'd want to visit. If you prefer to rent a car, we would recommend doing so at LAX. This may add some additional convenience but is definitely not necessary.

Hotels

We recommend staying at our wedding venue, Terranea resort!

or

Contact the reservations department at (855) 441-2575 and reference the "Nicole Fischer and Sakib Huq Wedding" Room Block

ROOM BLOCK for 5/31/25-6/2/25:
- $384/night for resort-view guestroom
- $474/night for ocean-view guestroom
- This price includes tax, resort fees, housekeeping, etc. except parking ($40 a night)
- In case you want an upgrade/larger accommodation, please ask Terranea about upgrading to a 1-bed suite, 2-bed bungalow, 2 or 3-bed casita, 2 or 3-bed villa for a discounted rate!

Other than Terranea, we recommend staying in Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, or Torrance if you want to be located close to the wedding activities!

Torrance Beach and Redondo Beach are a 20-min drive from the wedding and welcome party venues. Torrance is a suburb that is centrally located with many amenities (malls, restaurants, beach, etc) perfect for families. Redondo has a nicer beach and more marina feel and a family friendly pier.

Hermosa beach is a great option for those looking for nightlife but don't mind a drive. It's about ~25-30 minutes from wedding activities and has lots of beachfront bars and restaurants.
