The Story
By Adam
How it all began? Well, it was the second week of University. My friends and I sat in the back row learning all there was to know about Aircraft Engines, at least trying to, as we instead found it much more interesting to talk to one another and scroll Facebook on our phones. As I took a break from the current events Facebook had to offer, I looked over to my 2 o'clock position to see Regan (although at this time, I only knew her as the pretty blonde girl), who was diligently taking notes and being a much better student than I was. I knew I had to chat with her, but how would I begin a conversation with this girl that was clearly out of my league? tell a funny joke? discuss the weather? ask for her study notes? no, that would never work. I kept pondering the thought as I ate my breakfast cereal...
...That's it! Offering a cute girl a bowl of Froot Loops is the perfect way to break the ice, or so I thought. I received what I believed to be a sincere smile and laugh (I later found out she thought I was ridiculous, and it was instead a nervous laugh as if to say "please leave me alone").
But, ridiculous worked! We became great friends, began studying together, talking to one another at night on social media, and caught up after Uni for lunch and movies.
It was about a year down the track when Regan had enough of being friends and Regan made us official because, in her words, I was being too much of a wimp and should have asked her out long ago. That was 7 years ago and as they say, the rest is history!

I began Uni as a mid-year entry student the year prior to Adam, and so 2015 was my second semester, but now with all of these fresh new faces. It was the second week of Uni and I arrived early to set myself up at the front of the Lecture Theatre. During the break in class, I notice a boy running down the stairs from the back with a bowl in hand filled to the brim with cereal. I thought to myself, what an odd young man. I look up to this random stranger who wore a beanie atop his head which was so scruffy, it looked as though it had never been washed (although, he trusts that’s the look he was going for). I sat there so awkward, just hoping he would leave.
His effort to entice me to some breakfast was by shoving a children’s Finding Nemo bowl at my face and suggesting a bowl of Fruit Loops is the perfect way to start the day. Clearly, Adam noticed I wasn’t too interested in taking food from a stranger and so changed tactics, which is where I experienced the worst pick-up line in the history of pick-up lines - “why are you sat at the front on your own with no friends?” He immediately apologised, saying he didn’t mean it the way it came out, but continued to put his foot in his mouth.
As time passed we had many classes together, and so I got to know Adam really quite well. I began to realise he had a great personality and was very funny. Our group of friends joined and I saw Adam constantly. At the time we were rather fond of one another but agreed that just being friends was the way for us. As the year progressed, Adam and I began spending more and more time together to the point where we would see each other after class basically every day. A few months pass, and on the night of our Uni Pub-Crawl, I told him to sort out his confidence (that’s the polite version of what I said), and kissed him.
Still not taking the hint that I liked him and lacking the confidence to move our relationship any further I had to take charge, and make us official. Seven years on, and as they say the rest is history.
