Our Story
Shortly after none of the y2k prophecies were realized, Dan and Sarah were dropped off at the same elementary school in the new millennium, year 2000 . They even had a detached awareness of one another during their overlapping years at Westlake high school⦠but it wasnāt until College (Go Bears!) that they finally met.
Fast forward 10 years: āI give hugs!ā Sarah informed Dan from his doorstep in Berkeley, which she had arrived at with limited notice. She was in town in search of lodging near the UC Berkeley campus and Dan Stroud, who she really only knew through her sister, had made the shortlist. Soon they were on their way to their first meal together in Berkeleyās Gourmet Ghetto, a neighborhood that would eventually be home to both of them. When they parted, Sarah gave her leftovers to Dan, a ātraditionā that has survived a decade (and counting).
On May 11th 2011, Dan asked Sarah to be his girlfriend without ever having taken her on a formal date. Dan quickly resolved to check the first date box off his list (Dan loves to make lists). They met at a bus stop in downtown Berkley and waited for the 51B to arrive. Their destination was Zacharyās Pizza. A host seated them in a corner by the window. Surrounded by the homemade pizza posters and tormented by the awkwardness of the whole concept of a āfirst date,ā Dan proceeded to put on the charm: āSo what do I talk to you about?!ā
Little did they know, in another 10 years, theyād be married!
Tidbits
Who made the first move? How?
During the intermission of a Wii Fit tennis match and after weeks of dropping blatant hints, Sarah told Dan that she had made it obvious that she liked him. "Are you going to do anything about it?"
What's your favorite activity together?
We are hikers. We spend most of our vacations seeking out epic trails and mountains to conquer!
Where are you going for your honeymoon?
Mexico City + Tulum!
What's the best meal you have eaten together?
On Dan's 27th Birthday we had dinner at Enrique Olvera's Pujol in Mexico City. Mother Mole forever!
What's the most memorable trip you have taken together?
We have been on some amazing trips together, but the Canadian Rockies blew us away in 2019. Each morning we'd wake up before dawn to watch the sun rise over a different glacial lake. Sarah is not a morning person, but mountain mirrors broke her habit for 10 days.
Q & A
For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!
When is the RSVP deadline?
The deadline was 9/15 and our headcount is finalized!
Where exactly is Sayulita, Nayarit?
Sayulita is located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico on the beautiful Riviera Nayarit about 40 minutes North of the airport in Puerto Vallarta.
How do we get to Sayulita?
Book your flights to Puerto Vallarta International Airport! You can then shuttle directly to Sayulita or rent a car (we recommend a shuttle).
Check this website below if you're interested in booking a ride ahead of time which we highly recommend:
Our Wedding Planner has also personally recommended a Shuttle company ran by her friend Jose Ramos marijoseramos@yahoo.com
Otherwise, we recommend taking a taxi with signs that read TAXI AUTORIZADO which means "authorized taxis." Taxis accept USD and pesos. It will cost about $280-$340 pesos or $20-30 USD to get to Sayulita (~40 minute drive) which you will pay in advance before exiting the airport. Tipping at the end is welcomed.
There will be many vendors vying for your business to timeshares, tours, etc as you walk out of customs to exit the airport. Don't let this overwhelm you, and keep walking!
COVID-19 Travel Safety
Please check out the following resources for more information on where you can get tested to return to the US:
You will need to check with your airline to confirm what kind of test will be accepted on your return flight.
A negative COVID-19 test is not required for entry to Mexico, but effective January 26, 2021, a negative COVID-19 test, taken within the 3 calendar days prior to flight departure, or documentation of recovery from a COVID-19 infection within the last 90 days, is required for air passengers entering the United States.
How do I get from the airport to Sayulita?

Can I bring a date?
Please check your invite!
What will the weather be like?
November is shoulder season - our favorite time to travel! This means less tourists and great weather. Chances of rain are extremely low during this time of year and temperatures will be in the mid 80°'s during the day, low 70°'s at night.
Are kids welcome?
Although we love your children, we regretfully cannot accommodate them at our venue on our wedding day. We hope you'll take this opportunity to "let your hair down" and celebrate with us in style!
Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?
Outdoors!
What should I wear?
The dress code will be semi-formal. We're going to be pretty dressed up ourselves, so please... no shorts or sandals! Lightweight suits or dress shirts/slacks for men, and cocktail dresses for women welcome! More guidance if you need it: www.brides.com/semi-formal-wedding-attire-4800687
Is there transportation being provided between reception and hotels?
We have arranged for all of our guests' transportation to and from our venue! Meet at 3:30PM at Sayulita Plaza! Please avoid driving to Villa Valentin. Parking is very limited and the spaces that are available will be taken by our vendors.
When should I buy my flight?
Book your reservation about 3+ months in advance. Note that this is prior the busy Thanksgiving travel week so a 1-3 day difference in your arrival/departure date can make a big difference in the flight cost, so explore your options. You can spend additional time in Sayulita and north and south of Puerto Vallarta for an extended trip!
When should I arrive in/depart from Sayulita?
This is completely up to you!
Should I rent a car?
This is not advised. The drive is about 40 minutes and once you arrive Sayulita is incredibly walkable! People rent golf carts in town to get around to other beaches.
What if something happens last minute? Lost baggage, delayed flights etc.?
These are great questions for our wedding planner. The bride, groom and their parents will be deferring all last minute issues to our wedding planner, Yazmin. She has been planning destination weddings for over 10 years and has seen it all. This will not only provide peace of mind for Sarah, Dan and their parents, but will also allow you to have a knowledgable asset in the area.
Where should I stay?
Check the "Travel" tabs for our recs in Sayulita! It is important that you book your accommodations as soon as you know you will be coming. There are incredible homes here! You can find homes through Airbnb or VRBO. There are also great boutique hotels, but no large resorts. Sayulita is full of beaches, amazing food, great cocktails and bars, and many art and misc shops. For guests staying in Sayulita, we will provide transportation to and from the wedding venue.
If you are feeling fancy ($$$+), Punta Mita is only a 15-minute drive and home to amazing resorts... we stayed @ The W during our last visit and did NOT want to leave!
San Pancho (aka San Francisco, Nayarit) is a town 15 minutes north of Sayulita that has great lodging/food/beach options. Calmer vibes, less bars, a bit less hip).
If you're looking for white sand beaches with calmer water, you'll want to stay in Punta Mita. The beaches in Sayulita are beautiful, but the waters are not as calm for swimming.
Will food be served?
Yes! Appetizers, open bar, and full dinner service.
What if I have a dietary restriction?
Add this info to your entree selection form:
Where should I park?
Parking at the venue will be limited. More details will be provided closer to the date. For guests staying in the town of Sayulita, shuttles will be provided to and from the venue from the town square.
Will the reception be live streamed?
No
Is there a gifts registry?
Yes, keep scrolling!
Will last names be changing after the wedding?
No
I have a question not answered here; how do I contact you?
Please contact us at hello@seeyouinsayulita.com
