Story
It was fall 2012, and Kevin had declared that he was off the dating market, having moved to San Francisco and had little luck finding a leading lady. Kevin’s friend, Tim, took this as a challenge and schemed with Adam, their manager, to find someone suitable.
Sidnie worked with Adam's wife Valley, and when Adam described Kevin’s sardonic-and-sometimes-inappropriate-wit, Valley immediately thought of Sidnie as a possible match.
Valley and Adam decided that they would play Cupid and invite both Sidnie and Kevin to their son, Cormac’s, first birthday party. When Valley invited Kevin to Cormac's party he was skeptical at first but after talking to Adam (The conversation went something like "Uh a one-year-old's birthday party?") he was assured that in fact there would be both beer and Mexican food, as well as a cute girl his wife worked with. Sidnie had been set up many times, to no avail, and had pretty low expectations, telling her friend “what kind of guy comes to a one-year-old’s birthday party?”. Still, she decided to give it a shot, especially after seeing Kevin’s photo and deciding he looked pretty cute, if not a little smug.
When Valley messaged Kevin to invite him (little did he know Sidnie was sitting right next to her) he replied that he would love to attend and would "be there will bells on". Valley thought the bells may be a bit much but Kevin was resolute "No dice, bells or nothing!" (He made a game time decision to leave the bells at home but still wear clothes).
Once he arrived they were introduced with the the not-so-subtle prompting of "Hey that’s Sidnie, go say hi" while the other friends retreated to observe from a safe distance and narrated the play-by-play from afar. Kevin and Sidnie awkwardly stood next to each other at the taco line, before being pushed into conversation by Tim. (The first and last time either person had been speechless).
Kevin and Sidnie began chatting for a while, and before they realized it, Sidnie had to leave for another outing, and Kevin missed her hint of “I have to go but my car is like a mile away....". Kevin, ever oblivious, countered with “Wow that’s far...have a good one!”.
The next day Kevin connected with Sidnie via work chat and proposed a lunch date on the Google campus. They quickly progressed from there to a first “real” date, on Halloween. They’d like to say they enjoyed a nice meal, but that would be a stretch, as Kevin forgot Sidnie had mentioned a revulsion of ham and happily ordered a Jambon Iberico appetizer. Sidnie tried to stomach a big bite to prove herself an adventurous eater and good sport (she is actually neither) but was secretly disgusted. The two headed to a comedy show next, where Kevin insisted they sit in the front row where they were heckled ruthlessly, Sidnie had one-too-many drinks, which resulted in her loudly blurting out the punchline of the headlining act before the comedian. (The comedian was not happy.) Still, they found the evening to be hilarious and fun, sharing their first kiss in a slight rain under a streetlight on the steps of the Powell St BART station as Sidnie departed. The rest is history!
