Story
Reader's Digest: We met. We fell in lub. We moved in together. We got a puppy. We're getting married. The end. The beginning.
Director's Cut: "Our anniversary is a matter of debate." Mark likes to believe that November 3rd, 2015 should be commemorated as the night they met at a play reading, were corralled to The Red Lion Tavern and intentionally ignored by plotting friends (Thanks Julia, Zach, Nahal, and Jordan!). They then spent the evening giggling over an impassioned, lone saxophonist accompanied only by the most random karaoke tracks. "But, when is he going to play Careless Whispers?" they wondered all evening. Answer: Never, inexplicably.
Victoria believes the first date on November 6th, 2015 will go down in history as the true beginning. After a five hour flight from Cleveland, Victoria rushed to get ready for an evening date with Mark, so of course Mark arrived 15 minutes early. The two got to know each other over craft cocktails at a speakeasy in downtown Los Angeles named "The Varnish" (Victoria had a Bee's Knees and Mark a Honeysuckle). Apparently, Mark had intended to show Victoria an evening of various downtown locales, but they didn't get that far. They closed the joint down.
Over the following weeks, Victoria and Mark discovered their mutual love of food, of adventure and travel, plays and music, their desire to communicate openly and honestly, a shared affection for Harry, both Potter and the partner of Sally, their love of hosting friends, and that life seemed to be better together. They explored their city hand in hand, climbing mountains, eating massive amounts of poutine and drinking waaaay too much coffee.
And while their adventures brought more joy than they thought possible, they grew all the closer in the deeper moments, Victoria at Mark's side through the passing of his grandmother (Tobie, the Legend) and Mark on his maiden tractor voyage (wearing the requisite John Deere hat) at Victoria's family home in Titusville, PA less than two months into the relationship. Their time together seemed to pass in an instant, while the depth of their connection seemed to defy the brevity of their knowing one another. It was abundantly clear that their meeting was a long time coming.
After two serendipitously planned and concurrent international journeys (Mark to Europe, Victoria to Asia) came to a close, the two decided they wanted to eat their breakfasts together and officially began sharing a space in May of 2016. They bought a shag rug, a nap-worthy couch, and began sharing a closet - still a work in progress.
A little over a year later, on July 11th, 2017, Mark joined Victoria on the Appalachian Trail where she had been spending the last month hiking what would ultimately be a total of 300 miles. Right outside of Great Barrington, MA, on a cliff overlooking a beautiful valley full of evergreens and swooping hawks, Mark pulled out a small golden snitch and got down on one knee. Victoria, who had been told to cover her eyes, tackled Mark to the rocky ground in her excitement and surprise. Mark placed a one-of-a-kind 1930's vintage ring (lovingly picked with the help of friends Dylan and Ashlee) on Victoria's finger. The ring hadn't been sized yet, so Mark had cleverly brought along a silicone ring that Victoria could wear while she finished the hike, as a sort of placeholder... he didn't realize that Victoria was not going to part with that ring if she could help it and ended up using the silicone ring as a sort of bumper to hold her engagement ring on her finger.
Almost exactly a year later, Mark came through on a Valentine's Day promise he had made in their first year together and gave the go ahead for a puppy. Victoria filled out 11 adoption applications within the first hour. Shortly thereafter, Preux bounded onto the scene, fearless and fluffy, and immediately became an integral part of their little family.
On June 15th, 2019, Mark and Victoria will make official what they have known from the very beginning - that they are each other's home.
Love is the wind, the tide, the waves, the sunshine. ~ Thoreau

FAQs
Are kids welcome?
The wedding is 21+, with the exception of those directly involved in the ceremony. That said, if you're making a vacation out of your trip to the west coast (which we wholly endorse!), we'll be exploring childcare options available at Terranea and will update you as we know more. For those traveling in from out of town and staying in the area, we will be having an out-of-towners brunch on Sunday morning which will be all ages.
Can I bring a date?
Invitations will be addressed to all those invited to the wedding.
What time should I arrive?
The ceremony will start promptly at 5pm and the site itself is a short walk from the Terranea entrance. Please arrive by 4:30p to ensure an on-time start! And if you want to get to Terranea early to enjoy the view and grounds, there are a number of restaurants and bars to pass the time.
Where should I park?
Parking at Terranea is available for a discounted rate of $10. We will be providing a free shuttle service from The Redondo Beach Boardwalk area for guests who are staying nearby or coming from that area.
Are the ceremony and reception locations wheelchair accessible?
Yes, 100% wheelchair accessible.
What should I wear?
We are calling our dress-code "Cali-formal" meaning that guests are free to dress up, keeping in mind that the ceremony and Happy Hour are outside. Feel your best! Suggested attire includes: dresses, suits, skirts, collared shirt and tie, slacks, etc.
Please avoid: jeans, sneakers, baseball caps, t-shirts
What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?
As the ceremony will be on a lawn, stilettos perhaps aren't ideal. Otherwise, please just keep within our dress code of Cali-Formal.
Whom should I call with questions?
Either Victoria or Mark would be happy to answer any questions you may have leading up to the wedding. Once we get to the week-of, we may pass that baton to our wonderful wedding planner Paola.
