Cash Funds via Messaging: Request and Manage Payments from Guests

Updated this week

Cash Funds Now Support Messaging & Shareable Links

What’s new with Joy Messages & Cash Funds?

You can request and receive cash contributions from guests through Joy Messages or a shareable link. This works even if you don’t have a Joy Registry.

Simply add the cash fund to your message, pick which guests to send it to, or copy and share the cash fund link anywhere you want. Guests follow a secure link to contribute and receive confirmation once payment is complete.

When to Use Cash Funds

Cash Funds work well any time you want guests to chip in for something beyond a registry item, such as:

  • Collecting funds for group accommodations or room blocks

  • Group travel or shared expenses

  • Planning & event-related costs

  • Any cash contribution outside of a traditional registry

  • Private or guest-specific cash requests, like suit rentals or accessory purchases

How to Create a Cash Fund

Start a Cash Fund in one of two ways:

  • Go to your Event Dashboard.

  • Click More under Planning & RSVP.

  • Select Cash Funds, then click Create Cash Fund.

or

  • Go to General Messages under Cards and Messaging.

  • Open the Cash Fund dropdown.

  • Select Create New Fund or choose an existing fund.

  • Fill in the details of your fund and your goal amounts.

  • Click Save.

Send a Cash Funds Message

  • Go to General Messages and find your cash fund in the dropdown.

  • Write your message, then click Next.

  • Click Select Guests to choose who receives the message.

  • Click Send Now.

Complete Stripe Onboarding (if needed)

If you haven’t completed Stripe onboarding, you’ll be prompted to do so first. Joy uses Stripe for secure payments between couples and guests. Transaction fees vary and may apply.

  • Stripe will perform the identity verification required before processing payouts to your bank or debit card.

  • Onboarding can be completed during or after fund creation.

  • If you’re already onboarded with Stripe for Registry cash funds, then you’re already good to go with messages; simply provide your First & Late name when prompted.

What Guests See

When you send a Cash Fund via Messaging, your guests receive an email with a payment link.

From there:

  • Guests complete payment through a secure checkout

  • They receive a confirmation email

Guests do not need a Joy account to contribute.

Manage Your Cash Funds

Head to your Cash Funds Management page from the More icon on the Event Dashboard.

Here you can:

  • View total cash received from both Registry and Message-related cash funds

  • See detailed transaction history

  • Track which guests have paid or not paid

  • Copy or share a payment link

  • Duplicate or Deactivate a Cash Fund

  • Withdraw funds to your connected bank account or debit card

If Stripe onboarding is incomplete, you’ll see a prompt to finish setup before payouts are available.

Payouts and Withdrawals

  • You can withdraw funds directly to your connected bank account or debit card

  • If you also use a Joy Registry, all cash funds are included in payouts together.

  • Only one Stripe account can be connected per event, and it works for both Messaging and Registry cash funds

Country and Currency Availability

  • Cash Funds currently support U.S.-based accounts only

  • Your currency is set by your country of residence and can’t be changed

  • International support is coming over time

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Joy Registry to use Cash Funds?

No. Cash Funds works even if you do not have a registry.

Can guests contribute without creating an account?

Yes. Guests can contribute directly through the secure payment link.

Can I reuse a Cash Fund?

Yes. Once created, a Cash Fund can be reused in future messages.

Why do I need to complete identity verification?

Stripe requires identity verification before payouts can be made to your bank account to ensure funds are credited to the correct account. Stripe will also require 2FA to further protect your account. Joy also recommends enabling 2FA for your Joy account.
