Adding A Video

Your videographer just sent the final cut. Or maybe it's been sitting in your camera roll for weeks, waiting for somewhere to live. Either way, a group chat is not it. Adding your video to your event website gives it a permanent spot where guests can actually find it before the event, after it, whenever they want to feel like they were there.

Before You Start

Joy supports videos hosted on YouTube and Vimeo. Both platforms handle the behind-the-scenes work of hosting and streaming your video across every device, from the largest screen to the smallest phone. A few things to know before you upload:

  • Prepare your video in 16:9 for desktop and 4:3 for mobile to avoid cropping or distortion.

  • If your video has audio, remove it before uploading. Videos with audio may not autoplay on mobile devices.

  • Both platforms work well. Vimeo is recommended if video quality is a priority.

Once your video is ready, upload it to YouTube or Vimeo before continuing.

Adding Your Video

From your Event Dashboard, hover over Website, click the arrow, and click Add New Page.

  • Click Photo / Video / Gallery to expand the content block options.

  • A preview loads automatically so you can see exactly how the video will appear on your page.

  • Enter an optional Video Caption in the field below the preview.

  • Click Save.

Privacy Settings

Joy embeds your video directly from YouTube or Vimeo, so the privacy settings on those platforms determine whether it plays on your site. Here is what works for each.

YouTube

Set your video to Public or Unlisted. Unlisted videos can only be accessed through a direct link and will not appear in YouTube search results — a good option if you would rather keep it off public search. For a full overview of YouTube privacy options, see this page.

Vimeo

Set your video to Public. If you have a Vimeo Plus, Pro, Business, or Premium account, you can keep your video private on Vimeo and still embed it on Joy by choosing "Hide From Vimeo" in your Vimeo privacy settings. For a full overview of Vimeo privacy options, explore this page.

Tip: If your video previews correctly in the Video URL field but does not appear on your live site, check your privacy settings first. A video set to Private on YouTube or Vimeo cannot be embedded anywhere.

If you're looking to add a looping video background to the top of your site rather than a dedicated video page, see Adding a Video Header to Your Website.
