A photo captures a moment. A video makes it feel like you're still in it. Adding a Video Header to your site is one of the quickest ways to turn a beautiful page into something that genuinely feels like you, a looping clip your guests will see the second they arrive. Choose from one of Joy's ready-made designs or bring in your own footage from YouTube or Vimeo. This article walks you through both.
Note: Video Headers are available on the Classic Navigation and Simple Scroll layouts. If you're on a different layout, you'll need to switch before this option appears.
How to add a Video Header
From your Event Dashboard, hover over Website, click the arrow, and select Design
Under Header Style, select Video Background
Under Choose Video, select a ready-made design from Joy's video library, or click the Change video icon to add your own YouTube or Vimeo link
If adding your own video, paste your Vimeo or YouTube link into the field
Optionally, upload a Placeholder Photo to display if the video cannot load
Optionally, upload a separate Mobile Video if you want a specific 4:3 crop for smaller screens
Adjust your header text placement so your names and details sit where you want them
Click Save
Video privacy settings
Joy embeds your video directly from YouTube or Vimeo, which means your privacy settings on those platforms affect whether the video displays on your site. Here's what to use for each.
YouTube
Set your video to Public or Unlisted. Unlisted videos won't appear in YouTube search results and can only be viewed by people with the link, a good option if you'd rather keep it off the open internet. Private videos cannot be embedded, so they will not display on your site.
Vimeo
Set your video to Public or Hide From Vimeo. Hide From Vimeo lets you embed the video on your site without it appearing on Vimeo's platform. This option is available on Vimeo Plus, Pro, Business, and Premium plans. If Vimeo's embedding is blocked, the video will not appear on your site.
Tips for a great result
Choose a short, loop-friendly clip. Seamless loops feel more intentional and are less distracting behind text.
Avoid fast cuts or busy footage behind your names and navigation. Slower, calmer footage tends to read better as a background.
Use the mobile upload option if the desktop crop doesn't translate well to a vertical screen. A 4:3 clip gives you more control over what guests see on their phones.
