I am having trouble finding accommodation, what should I do?

There are a lot of accommodations in Red River that have a 2-night or 3-night minimum, so try widening your search dates. You can find many vacation rentals in the area that have a 3-night minimum here: or here: (some of them are even cheaper than two night stays at other hotels in the area).

Finally, if you absolutely can't find anything in Red River that you're happy with, or you want more options and don't mind driving a bit, Eagle Nest (24 min drive), Questa (18 min drive) and Taos (35 min drive) are the next closest towns.

Should I be concerned about altitude sickness?

Red River is located at 8,671 feet of elevation, so you may or may not experience some altitude sickness.

Symptoms of altitude intolerance can range from mild shortness of breath and headache to drowsiness, severe headaches, nausea, vomiting, racing pulse, pounding heartbeat, anxiety, or severe shortness of breath. Altitude sickness can affect all ages. Symptoms can vary across the spectrum of mild to very severe, even deadly.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING is to drink a lot of water, avoid or limit your alcoholic beverages and caffeine intake, and try to rest your first day at altitude.

If you’re concerned, it might be best to spend one night in Albuquerque beforehand to acclimate.

If you do get sick, there is a clinic located in Red River that's open Mon-Fri and an Ambulance service at the Fire Department in Red River. There is also an urgent care and a hospital in Taos (about 35 miles away).
