Story
• As told by Kyle: I met Kendall on a fateful night in the big apple. For most, it was just another random night in a dingy lower east side bar. Kendall, however, was about to witness a trivia performance for the ages. Aside from showing off my random knowledge of useless facts, I remember Kendall and I had an immediate connection as we were the only ones laughing at each other’s jokes (this seems to be a theme). Maybe it’s because I’ve seen every episode of How I met your Mother 5 times, but I left the bar that night thinking “I’m gonna marry that girl”. I almost texted my friend those exact words, but I guess I deleted it either because I didn’t want to jinx it, or I didn’t want to come on too strong.
A few days later it became clear she felt the same way about me. Bonding over our love for country concerts, her nerves got the best of her, and she spilled wine all over my favorite shorts. Aside from that little hiccup, the stars really aligned for us that summer. Since Kendall was underage, she really had no choice but to hang out with me. While everyone else was at the bar, we were enjoying sunset lobster boat cruises. While they slept in, we bonded over brunch and took long train rides out to Rockaway beach.
As the summer quickly came to an end, we had to make one of the most important decisions of our lives. With Kendall going back to Michigan, we either committed to long distance after only 2 months of dating, or we would go our separate ways and possibly never see each other again. I remember telling my mom I had never met anyone like Kendall, and couldn’t risk losing her. After our final date of the summer at Yankee Stadium, we were both relieved to learn we were on the same page.
The rest, as they say, is Higgstory.
• As told by Kendall: It was the summer of 2015 and I came to the big apple entirely fixated on my internship until a very, very tall man with dimples to die for stumbled in and overshadowed it all.
Our paths first crossed during a competitive game (surprise, surprise) of trivia at the local tavern, Finnerty's. When I met Kyle, he seemed like a smooth talker with a surprising wealth of random knowledge. While I have to admit his suave demeanor and intelligence was attractive, it was his softer, thoughtful side that really drew me in. Under the lights of a Tim McGraw concert our interest in each other became evident and it was the start of something new.
Kyle asked to make it "official" before we got back to school for the fall semester at my first Yankee's game. Little did I know that New York sporting events would consume the better part of our days. The next year was a blur on many flights from Michigan to Boston before we relocated together to Manhattan post graduation and the rest (as some might say ) was "Higgstory"!
I can't wait to call this man my husband!
• Fast Forward: 7 Years later, we've travelled to 8 countries, spent 9 months road tripping across the US, and have now welcomed our puppy Luna into the family. On December 10, 2021, Kyle brought our story full circle by proposing in New York under the most magical Hallmark setting in Lake Placid. Together we dream of growing old playing boardgames together when we are not traveling to the far corners of the world hand in hand.
