Our Story
It only took a few messages back and forth between us on OkCupid before Scott and I lined up our first date on January 30, 2014 at Public School 310, a restaurant in Culver City, CA. Dinner eventually turned into drinks at the bar across the street which is as good a sign as any that a first date is going well. And when Scott dropped me off at my apartment around 2 a.m., we made plans to go out again the very next night. So, 18 hours later.
We’ve been together ever since and though it’s unclear when things became “official,” we wasted no time taking our relationship to the next level, moving into a Downtown Los Angeles loft together in May 2014. Then in 2015, just after I’d started my second stint working for Howard Stern, Scott accepted a teaching job up north in Silicon Valley. Long-distance relationships are never easy but we managed by meeting up on weekends at our halfway point in San Luis Obispo.
At the end of that school year, Scott was offered another new teaching position, this time at a charter school in New York City. I was, of course, willing to relocate. Not only was I looking forward to once again living in the same place as Scott, but there are few better places in the world in which to live than New York, in my opinion. So, we packed our bags and headed east.
It had long been decided (probably on our first date, actually) that when it came time for us to get engaged we would each have to separately pop the question to the other. During a vacation to Playa del Carmen, Mexico in April 2017 Scott brought me down to the beach and proposed (see photo above). Three months later, I asked Scott to marry me during the final clue of an escape room. Obviously, we both said yes.
And now comes the big day! Windsor Mountain is the perfect place for our wedding since Scott grew up attending summer camps as a kid and also served as a counselor at UCLA’s Bruin Woods. Me, I just love lakes and New Hampshire (especially lakes that are in New Hampshire). But more than anything, this weekend in the woods will bring together the people in our lives we love the most to celebrate the start of the next chapter of our story.
