Story
Emily and Mike met at the University of Michigan in the fall of 2013 in their dorm, North Quad, a few days after move-in day. Emily lived in a suite with three other girls and Mike lived in a single room conveniently across the hall. At first impression, MIke thought Emily was pretty shy and reserved, however, after hanging out a few times he was completely wrong. Emily thought Mike was really confident and outgoing as everyone was all getting to know each other in the hall. At first she didn’t really think he was her type, but once they started to hang out alone and really got to know each other, she realized she had met someone truly amazing and kind-hearted. Then on January 7th, 2014, after a semester of spending lots of time together, Emily and Mike made things “official.” That night they both stayed up until the early morning talking, and at that point Mike knew that he had found a keeper. The rest of their college years were filled with lots of love, game days, jumbo cheesy breads from Pizza House, studying, exams and spring breaks. The whole time Mike and Emily were falling more and more in love every day.
Toward the end of senior year Emily and Mike both got jobs in the DC-area and moved at the end of the summer of 2016. They got to explore a new city together and grow their relationship even more. Then in the summer of 2017 Mike moved into Emily’s DC apartment and they lived there for a year until they decided to move to Bethesda, MD. In August 2019 they were lucky enough to add a new member to their family, their Brittany puppy, Maizey. She’s named after University of Michigan’s colors Maize and Blue to honor the place that brought her parents together. Emily and Mike loved living together and going on hikes and bike rides and binging TV shows. Over the years in DC Emily and Mike grew even closer and both knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives with each other.
During the summer of 2019, Mike figured the time had come and he began looking at engagement rings. While trying to get ideas from Emily without completely giving it away, he started to save up to get a ring. After finding the perfect ring, he began to plan out how to pop the question. He wanted to incorporate some of their favorite things in this special day. He decided to take Emily on a hike on the Billy Goat Trail in Maryland with their new puppy. On September 2nd, 2019, after finding the perfect spot along the trail overlooking the Potomac River, Mike asked Emily to come up to the rock he was on and nervously popped the question. Emily said yes! Emily doesn’t remember everything Mike said, but remembers it was perfect.
Emily and Mike look forward to spending their wedding day celebrating their love with the people who mean the most to them. Thanks for traveling to northern Michigan, a place near and dear to their hearts and being a part of their special day.
