Maria's Consecration & Dedication to a life of Virginity

Q & A

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q & A first!

What is the rite of consecration?

The rite for the consecration of virgins belongs to the treasures of the Roman liturgy. Jesus Christ left holy virginity as a legacy to His bride, one of his most precious gifts. Because of it, since the times of the Apostles, virgins consecrated their chastity to God, embellishing the mystical body of Christ and enriching it with admirable fecundity. It led to the formation of a solemn rite constituting the candidate a sacred person, a surpassing image of the Heavenly Bride, and of the life to come when the Church will at last fully live her love for Christ the Bridegroom. After many centuries of disuse, this Rite for the Consecration of a Virgin Living in the World was renewed after Vatican II - so it is in some way, a very recent vocation! Ever ancient, and ever new. More info on the vocation below :)

When is the RSVP deadline?

There is no deadline to RSVP, however, it's nice to know who will be in attendance at the ceremony :)
By sending in an RSVP, you will see the schedule of events and I can also know who to send any necessary updates to in case of last minutes changes (restrictions, etc).

Can I invite other people?

Yes absolutely! Anyone is welcome and invited to come.

How do I access the live stream?

The Diocese of Victoria will start streaming the rite of consecration a few minutes before 7pm PST. Please check their youtube channel (see below) prior to the start of the event.

Is there a gift registry? What can I buy as a gift?

With the rite of consecration of a virgin living in the world, I will be striving to follow the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Therefore, I do not wish to accumulate material possessions other than what is necessary to help draw me closer to Jesus, as much as I am tempted to have many pretty things! As such, I do not wish to have a gift registry. Your prayers and presence are more than enough of a gift for me!

Where should I park?

There is plenty of free parking near the side entrance of the cathedral after 6 pm.

What time should I arrive?

The mass will be at 7pm PST, with a few prelude songs so I recommend arriving around 6:45pm so you can prepare yourself for the sacred rites we will be celebrating :)

What is consecrated virginity?

Consecrated virgins are called to bear witness to the fact that Christ alone is sufficient to fulfill all the longings of the human heart. In committing to a life of perpetual virginity, her primary vocation is to live as the bride of Christ, for Him to be her joy and her crown, while also reflecting the reality of the Church as Christ’s Bride. Through the rite of consecration, she is mystically betrothed to Christ, the Son of God, and is constituted a sacred person. For more information on this vocation, a great resource that has been helpful for me is the United States Association of Consecrated Virgins (USACV) - they have plenty of material to read through! Their website is:

What relation does a consecrated virgin have with the diocese?

A consecrated virgin is consecrated by the local bishop, who remains the spiritual father of the consecrated virgins in his diocese. In contrast with religious Sisters, who have their religious community as their spiritual family, the “community” of a consecrated virgin is the local diocesan Church. She does not profess vows as do Religious but follow the life of Our Blessed Lady living the Gospel values, the evangelical counsels, for the sake of the Kingdom. Consecrated virginity is a public and diocesan vocation and so she belongs to her particular diocese.

What does a consecrated virgin do?

Consecrated virginity is first and foremost a vocation of being, rather than doing. Who she is as the bride of Christ gives a strong witness to the world and reminds us each of our heavenly calling and eternal home. Consecrated virgins are to spend their time in works of penance and of mercy, in apostolic activity, and in prayer, according to their state in life and spiritual gifts. They offer unending praise to the heavenly Father and pray for the salvation of the whole world, particularly through praying the Liturgy of the Hours each day. Led by the Holy Spirit, their life is ordered toward a fervent love of their Spouse Jesus and greater freedom in serving their brothers and sisters. As she does not belong to a religious community with a particular apostolate, she has great freedom to go wherever God leads her, and so can work at any kind of ministry or employment.
