The Borgo

Borgo di Tragliata is an ancient village ("borgo") dating from 928 AD, on a large estate 17 km north of Rome. The venue is in the hills of the Roman countryside but is still only a 15 minute drive from the coast. Although close geographically to Rome, the venue itself is quite rural. Borgo di Tragliata is "agriturismo" certified which means anything you eat or drink during your stay will be freshly produced either on its own organic farm, or within 10 kilometres.

Borgo di Tragliata has two outdoor pools, a 6km running and cycling nature track, kids playground, football pitch and an onsite bar, restaurant and games room. The venues for our wedding festivities are all on site so you won't need to worry about travelling anywhere from Thursday-Sunday - just relax and enjoy the party!

As the location is remote, we have provisionally reserved all of the rooms at the venue for all our guests between Thursday June 9th and Sunday June 12th. Guests length of stay is entirely optional, however we would love to be able to host you at our welcome BBQ the night before, and Pizza Party the day after our wedding, in addition to the wedding day! See our "Travel and Accomodation" tab for more info on this. Should you wish to stay at Borgo outside of these dates, for longer on either side, please send your room requirements directly to us through email at niamhmartin5@gmail.com.

Things to Do

Days in at Borgo

There's plenty to do on the grounds of the Borgo to keep us all busy between the festivities. The village boasts two swimming pools, kids playground, a 6km nature track, games room, biological garden, football pitch (a game of footy can be organized for guests if desired), and an onsite bar and restaurant. Bikes are available from reception, at no cost, to explore the farm and countryside.

Borgo also offers cocktail making classes, pizza/pasta making classes, and wine and cheese tasting experiences - all of which must be pre-booked in advance. Let us know if you are interested in any of these and we can organize a group.

We will be organising some activities the day after the wedding before our Farewell Pizza Party that night, so stay tuned!!

When in Rome

We know that Rome is a long way to come to our wedding so we have put this section together in case you want to make a holiday out of it too! Borgo di Tragliata, for us, is a perfect wedding venue and we are going to have 3 wonderful days there. But beyond our 3 organized days, there is so much to see and do in this area. So, we have put this together to help you see the best of the area. We will be spending a couple of days in Rome before heading to the Borgo for our wedding weekend festivities, so we'll pick somewhere central to meet for drinks for those that are around Rome in the days leading up to the wedding.

Rome (45mins from Borgo) is often described as the most fascinating city in Italy – which makes it probably the most fascinating city in the world! If Rome is the Eternal City, it is also a city with no end of ruins. It's impossible to see all of the temples and monuments from previous empires, try as you might, so begin with the Pantheon, the Colosseum, St. Peter's Basilica and The Vatican and also check out the beautiful Trevi Fountain and see how far you get.

It is possible to book a day-trip to Rome the day after the wedding (June 11th) if you would rather head into the city for the day for some sightseeing or shopping. Transfers/transport options can be organized by the venue upon arrival on June 9th.

Beach

There are three different beaches just 20 minutes from the Borgo, all have restaurants, pools, and deck chairs available to rent.

Singita - meaning ‘miracle beach’ is a beautiful, relaxing, private beach just 20 minutes from Borgo.

La Rambla @ Maccarese Beach, again just 20 minutes away from the Borgo, there’s a beautiful restaurant offering delicious fresh fish.

Lido di Focene @ Focene Beach, again just 20 minutes away from the Borgo with a private pool and a restaurant.

The Borgo can arrange transfers to any of these beaches if you fancy dipping your toes in the Mediterranean!

Lake Bracciano

Lake Bracciano is the second largest lake in the region and one of the major lakes of Italy. It has a circular perimeter of approximately 32 km (20 mi). Three towns border the lake, Bracciano, Anguillara and Trevignano Romano. Bracciano & Anguillara are both only 20 mins away from the Borgo. Taxis can be arranged to these towns directly from Borgo di Tragliata for approx. €40.

Bracciano is famous for the main monument, its castle, Castello Orsini-Odescalchi, one of the most noteworthy examples of Renaissance military architecture in Italy. This castle is famous for hosting the elaborate wedding of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise in 2006!

Anguillara nestles on a small cape on the coast of Lake Bracciano; its medieval center and its beach make it a popular destination for tourists. Try out some water sports or enjoy the views from the street cafes.

The Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast has been declared one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites for its undisputed beauty and the uniqueness of its natural landscape. Undisputedly one of the most beautiful coastlines in Italy, with large hanging cliff tops, turquoise blue waters, rugged coastlines, hidden coves and romantic beaches. Steeped in culture and history, these chic and charming towns must be seen to be believed!

For holidays along the Amalfi Coast check out the destinations of Sorrento, Amalfi, Positano, Ravello and Capri. The Amalfi Coast can be reached by train from Rome Termini to Naples in approx. 1hr, and the resorts can be reached by bus, taxi and trains.

Italy is a wonderful country, take time to research and see it. Most major cities can be reached from Rome Termini station. This station is approx 40 minutes drive from Borgo di Tragliata. The Borgo will arrange minibus or taxi to Rome Termini whenever required - just ask!
