Our Story

Nikhil’s side of the story: “I first remember meeting Sabreena in college, and honestly my crush on her goes back farther than I can remember. She was somehow shy, yet outgoing at the same time. A truly unique personality that piqued my interest to say the least. I knew her as the go-to DJ of every party and a fearless, free spirit always down for a good time. On a trip to Lake Chelan, she convinced me to hang on for dear life as we were whipped around behind a boat. As we bailed into the water, I ended up kicking her in the face. Her immediate laughter and lighthearted response even when things went wrong truly inspired me, and still does today. As she always says, ‘life is for enjoying’.

Our friendship developed even more through our joint love for all things music. We bonded over the song covers we did together, and our endless conversations to curate the perfect playlists. Sabreena became my go to person and I found myself wanting to spend more and more time with her. I asked her to study for the GRE with me (although who initiated is still up for debate). Twice a week we spent our evenings in the Sammamish Public Library, studying and chatting the time away, slowly but surely growing our love together.”

Sabreena’s side of the story: "For the first few years I knew Nikhil, all I knew was that he liked Drake and that he could beatbox. But during a couple of group vacations, I realized he had this amazing sense of humor and a "let's do it" spirit. We started gravitating towards each other on these trips. Even though the thought of being more than friends crossed my mind, I dismissed it because I saw Nikhil as the quintessential "party guy."

Our friendship progressed with not-so-subtle hints from Nikhil such as watching my band practice for hours, buying extra tickets to a concert he already had tickets to just to sit with me, offering rides "on the way" to everywhere he was going, assembling all my furniture when I moved, and rescuing me from my culinary incompetence by bringing me his mom's food because his fridge “had no space in it.” It wasn't until our Greece trip in 2019 that I suddenly started seeing him in a completely different light. That's when I spilled the beans, and the rest, as they say, is history. 💕
