When guests visit your event’s hotel page, Joy’s platform quietly goes to work in the background. It checks for exclusive Closed User Group (CUG) rates, special, private discounts not available to the general public, and compares them to other available rates, including any hotel room blocks you’ve arranged.
If Joy finds a better price than what’s publicly listed (or in some cases, even better than the room block rate), it offers that rate as an option to guests. These rates are used by millions of travelers globally and are one of the most effective ways to save on hotel stays.
Host Control, When You Want It
By default, Joy enables these rate comparisons and discount checks to give your guests maximum choice and savings. But we also understand that some hosts want tighter control over what’s shown, especially if they’ve negotiated financial guarantees with hotels.
That’s why we offer two simple switches in your event settings:
Disable Closed User Group (CUG) Rates:
Turn this on if you want to prevent Joy from showing exclusive CUG discounts. Most hosts leave this off so their guests can access the best deals.
Let Guests Compare Rates:
Leave this on to allow Joy to show your guests multiple rate options (such as a CUG rate vs. your room block) so they can choose what works best. Joy always respects your arranged room blocks and never overrides them.

What Most Hosts Choose (and Why)
Based on usage across hundreds of thousands of events, the vast majority of hosts leave both settings at their default, allowing Joy to display CUG discounts and compare rates. Why? Because it delivers a better guest experience.
