Sending Email and Reminder Messages

One well-timed message can answer a dozen questions before they land in your inbox. Joy's Messaging tools let you send a general update, nudge guests who haven't RSVP'd, or remind everyone about accommodations, all without leaving your dashboard.

From your Event Dashboard, click the Messaging icon, then select Create.

Send an Email Message

An Email Message is a freeform email you can send to any guests on your list. Use it for updates, logistics, schedule changes, or anything you want everyone to know.

From the Create tab, select Email message.

  • Click Select Recipients to choose who should receive the message. Search by name or tag, select guests individually, or click Select All to include everyone.

  • Guests flagged with a warning icon are missing an email address and won't receive the message. Click Edit Guest List to add missing information before sending.

  • Click Done when your selection is complete.

  • Under Send Time, Now is selected by default. Scheduling a message for a future date and time requires Messaging Plus. See Send Text Messages to Your Guests with Messaging Plus to learn more.

  • In the Subject field, enter your email subject line.

  • A photo is optional. If one is shown, you can swap it by clicking the thumbnail or remove it by clicking the delete icon. To add one from scratch, click + Add Photo.

  • In the Salutation field, update the greeting if you'd like. It defaults to "Hi."

  • Check Include Recipient Name to add each guest's name after the greeting. For guests grouped under one email address, all names in that group will be included.

  • Type your message in the Message field.

  • If you'd like to include a button linking to your event website, leave Display Button in Email checked and update the Button Text to whatever you'd like it to say. The button URL is set to your Joy event website and can't be changed.

  • Check Display Links to Install the Joy App to include App Store and Google Play download links in your email. When this is on, your event password is included automatically for guests who need it to access password-protected pages.

  • Click Continue.

On the Confirm & Send page, review your recipient list and the email preview. Click Edit Recipients to make changes, or Send Test Email to preview the email in your own inbox before it goes out.

Note: Test emails can only be sent to verified email addresses belonging to the website owner or a collaborator.

  • Click Send Now when you're ready.

Tip: Not ready to send yet? Close out of the composer at any point and your message will be saved automatically to Drafts. Find it again by clicking the Messaging icon and selecting Drafts.

Send a Reminder Email

Reminder Emails are pre-formatted messages that include a relevant link automatically. For RSVP Reminders, that link points to your RSVP page and Joy pre-selects guests who haven't responded yet. For Hotel Reminders, the link points to your Accommodations page and no guests are pre-selected, so you'll choose your recipients manually.

From the Create tab, select RSVP reminder or Hotel reminder.

  • Choose your Delivery Method: Text, Email, or Both. Email is free. Sending by text requires Messaging Plus.

  • Click Select Recipients. Review and adjust the pre-selected guests if needed. If any guests are flagged with a warning, they don't have the contact information required for your chosen delivery method and won't receive the message. Click Done when your selection is complete.

  • Update the From field if you'd like to change the name your guests see.

  • Update the Subject line (email only) and the message body to match your voice.

  • A photo is optional. If one is shown, you can swap it by clicking the thumbnail or remove it by clicking the delete icon. To add one from scratch, click + Add Photo.

  • Update the Button Text if you'd like to change the label on the link button. The link itself is auto-populated and points to your RSVP or Accommodations page.

  • Click Next.

On the Confirm & Send page, review your recipients and the message preview. Click Send Now when you're ready. If you selected Text or Both and haven't purchased Messaging Plus, you'll be prompted to complete that purchase before the message sends.

Note: Messaging Plus unlocks SMS delivery for RSVP Reminders, Hotel Reminders, and Text Blasts, as well as scheduled sending for all message types. See Send Text Messages to Your Guests with Messaging Plus to learn more.

What your guests will see

Guests receive the email with your event photo at the top. If you turned on Include Recipient Name, each email opens with a personalized greeting. For guests grouped under one email address, such as a couple or a family, all names in that group will appear in the greeting.

Sending to a specific group

Not every message is for every guest. Use guest tags to filter your recipients when you only want to reach a specific group. Tags can be created and assigned in your guest list ahead of time, and they appear as filter options in the Select Guests panel when you're choosing recipients.

To learn more, see All About Guest Tags.

After you send

Once your message is sent, it appears in the Sent tab of your Messaging hub. Click any message to open its tracking page and see exactly who received it, who didn't, and when. For the full walkthrough, see Track Your Sent Messages.
