Credit Card Contributions For Cash Funds (U.S. only)
Updated over 7 months ago

Gift-givers can now contribute to your cash fund using their credit card! Enabling this payment method is as easy as creating or editing a previous cash fund on your Joy Registry. The new credit card payment option works for both new and existing cash funds and can be enabled or disabled at any time.

Clicking this payment method launches you to our partner, Stripe, to get started. To sign up, you’ll need to provide Stripe some basic details to ensure you are the rightful owner of the information you are providing, such as,

  • Legal First and Last Name

  • Email address & Phone Number

  • U.S. bank account or debit card

Once verified with Stripe, continuing the setup process creates a Stripe Express account directly linked to your Joy registry. After 24 hours, your gift-givers can use their credit card to contribute to your cash funds.

Next, you’ll notice Joy’s Registry Track page will show you your cash fund balance and allow you to transfer funds to your bank when ready. You can view your contributions and balances from this account anytime from Joy’s Registry or your Stripe Express account.

Let’s talk about Fees

We aim to help registrant(s) receive cash gifts as safely and affordablely as possible by providing numerous payment options for gift-givers. We found that using Stripe Connect to securely bring credit card contributions to the registrant(s) and their gift-givers was the best way to do so.

Contributions

For credit card contributions, gift-givers will notice a 2.5% per contribution fee applied to each contribution. This fee goes to Stripe for the cost of a transaction.

Example:

  • $100 your gift-giver gives with 2.5% will sum up to a total of $102.50.

  • Our registrant(s) will receive $100, and $2.50 will go to Stripe to cover the transaction.

  • Joy gets $0, and we’re okay with that.

Bank & debit card transfers

When you transfer your Stripe balance to your bank or debit card, you will notice a $1.70 flat transfer fee. This fee goes to Stripe, which is seamlessly integrated with your financial institution. You can transfer cash as often as you’d like to, but we recommend holding onto your balance until the end of your event to minimize transfer fees.

Example:

  • A $500 transfer of a cash fund balance is started.

  • Our registrant(s) will receive $498.30, and $1.70 will go to Stripe to cover the transfer to your bank or debit card.

  • Joy gets $0, and we’re still okay with that.

Remember, we want our registrant(s) to have the flexibility to receive contributions in a way that works for them, so we still offer zero-fee options like Venmo, PayPal, or CashApp. Any of these can be used together on a single cash fund, so please explore and use what’s best for you!

How quickly can I receive my contribution funds?

After creating your cash fund, gift-givers can start contributing to that cash fund within 24 hours.

Next, you can expect most gift-giver contributions to be received in your Stripe Account within 1-3 business days, but it can sometimes be instant.

Contributions received, and your total available balance is reflected on your Joy Registry Track page within the contributions widget. The total available balance is how much you can transfer at any given time and does not reflect any pending contributions still waiting to be deposited to your account.

Transfers to your bank or debit card from your Stripe balance are typically delivered within 3-5 business days.
