Envelope Recipient Addressing - A Quick Guide

Collecting Addresses

Before we can work our printing magic, we need addresses! Our Contact Collector is like your own personal address-gathering assistant. Share a link and sit back while your friends and family fill out a simple form. Boom! Their contact details land right in your Joy guest list. (Want a full Contact Collector walkthrough? Once the addresses are in your guest list, you’re ready to roll with envelope addressing!

Note: If you added addresses through an RSVP question or manually (without using the Contact Collector), you might notice some formatting differences when it comes to envelope printing. No worries—just head to the Formatting Addresses section below for tips on how to tidy things up!

Return Addressing

You’re in charge here! Choose where you want your return address – either the top left of the envelope front or the back flap. Then, pick a typography style you love, and that’s it! The style you choose will apply to both your return and recipient addresses. Add your return address, and you’re good to go.

Recipient Addressing

Ready to address those envelopes? Here’s how:

  • Opt in to recipient addressing by selecting the Front address placement

  • Click "Next: Recipients" to select and preview your recipients.

  • Scroll down to see the available recipients in your guest list.

  • Select your recipients by checking the box next to their name.

  • Don’t have recipients yet? No worries! Use the Contact Collector, or add them one by one by clicking "Add New Recipient.

  • If guests are grouped into households, they’ll be shown with a gray circle. You only need one card and envelope per household (unless they have separate addresses).

  • Click on the recipient’s name to view the envelope preview.

  • Want to add a title or family name? Click "Edit Guest Details" and update the Envelope Name field. Add family names like “The Smith Family” or titles like “Dr. and Mrs.” It’s that easy!

  • Missing an address? Click "Add Missing Address"
    If you don’t have the address handy, we can still print the name, and you can fill in the address by hand later. If you know the address is in your guest list but can’t find it, we can help with formatting. Just email us at printsupport@withjoy.com.

Formatting Addresses

Depending on how you added your guests' addresses to your guest list, you might see a few formatting differences on your envelopes.

Addresses from the Contact Collector

This is our go-to recommendation! If your guests used the Contact Collector, everything will be formatted perfectly for the envelope —street, city, state, zip code, and country, all lined up.

Addresses Entered Manually or Collected Through RSVP

If you entered addresses directly into your guest list or collected them through an RSVP question, you might see them look like this:

No biggie!

  • Just click "Edit Guest Details" and find the Address Line.

  • Add a line break by hitting the return key between the street name and the city to split the lines on the envelope.

  • Click Save and voilà—check out your neatly formatted envelope preview:

FAQs


How do I add titles or family names to the envelope?

Click on the recipient to view the envelope preview, then hit "Edit Guest Details." Find the Envelope Name field and update it to how you’d like it to appear on the envelope.


Can I preview the envelopes before submitting my order?

Absolutely! You can preview each envelope by clicking on the recipient’s name. Need a copy after ordering? Reach out to printsupport@withjoy.com.


Can I change or add an address after submitting my order?

We can usually make changes within 24 hours of your order. Contact us ASAP at printsupport@withjoy.com. After the order goes to print, we can’t make changes. We highly recommend ordering 5-10 extra cards and blank envelopes to cover any typos or last-minute changes.


I have all my addresses in a spreadsheet. What should I do?

No problem! We can help address your envelopes after placing your order. Here's how it works:

  • Checkout as normal, and don't worry about selecting any recipient addresses. You can still select your font style and return address.

  • Reach out to printsupport@withjoy.com within 24 hours of placing your order to let us know you will be sharing your addresses on a spreadsheet. This is so we can pause your order and make sure it doesn't go to print without the addresses.

  • Use our template as a guide to structure your addresses (download a copy here) and email us a copy to printsupport@withjoy.com.

  • We'll send a digital preview of your final addressed envelopes within 2 business days of receiving the address spreadsheet.

  • Once everything looks good, we'll send it to the printer!
