Event Settings: General

The General tab is where you set the core details that everything else on your site builds from: your URL, your names, your date, and your location. Some of these you set once and rarely touch. Others you might come back to if plans change. This article covers what each setting does and where it shows up.

From your Event Dashboard, click the gear icon, then select Event Settings. The General tab opens by default.

Your Joy URL is the primary link you share with guests. Click Edit next to Joy Event URL to change it, or use Copy Event URL to copy it to your clipboard. For everything you need to know about your URL, see Changing Your URL.

Partner One and Partner Two first names appear in contact collector message template, stationery and card designs, and the RSVP confirmation page. They also feed into the default Event Display Name, which is what guests see everywhere else on your site.

Last names don't appear anywhere on your guest-facing website, but they matter. Guests can search for your event at withjoy.com/find by first name, last name, or event handle. Without last names, a guest searching your full name won't find your event.

The Event Display Name is the primary name guests see across your site. It defaults to "Partner 1 & Partner 2" using first names, but can be fully customized to anything up to 40 characters, like "The Smith Wedding" or "Billy's 5th Birthday." You can also change the & to a +, "and," or any other text by editing this field directly.

It appears in your website header, browser tab title, link previews when your URL is shared, registry page header, and Add to Calendar events.

Use the Date field to enter your event date. Toggle on Show date in website and app to make it visible to guests. When off, the date is saved internally for your own planning but hidden from the guest site, and your countdown timer is disabled along with it.

When visible, your date appears in the website header, countdown, RSVP confirmation page, Add to Calendar events, and guest-facing email reminders.

The Location field is a Google-powered search that accepts a city, region, or venue name. It appears in your website header, schedule page, and Add to Calendar events, and generates a Google Maps link guests can tap to get directions.

Event Venue is a more specific field for the exact venue (for example, "San Francisco City Hall"). It only accepts established Google Places results and can sync with your schedule if a venue is already set there.

Use the Time Zone dropdown to set the timezone for your event. Joy displays all schedule times, RSVP deadlines, and Add to Calendar entries in this timezone, not in each guest's local timezone. Joy will attempt to predict the right timezone when you enter a location, but you can change it at any time.

The Default Event Language dropdown sets the language guests see when they first arrive on your site. It also determines the default currency and distance units for your event (for example, USD vs. EUR, or miles vs. kilometers). Joy sets this automatically based on your browser location at signup, but you can change it at any time.

Languages your guests can choose lets you build a language menu for your guest site. Select as many languages as you want to offer. You can search by language name using the search bar at the top of the dropdown.

Any language you add here appears as an option in the language switcher, shown as a globe icon in the corner of your live website. Guests can tap it to view Joy's menus and buttons in their preferred language.

Your own content (page text, schedule details, custom messages) stays exactly as you wrote it.

The Delete Event option appears at the bottom of the General tab and is only visible to the event owner. Deleting an event is permanent and removes the website, guest list, RSVP responses, and registry. Joy will ask you to type "DELETE" to confirm before anything is removed.
