Joy Proposal Story: Carol Ann & Steve

by Cali Pitchel

You’ve heard the saying, “When you know, you know.” This couldn’t be more true for Carol Ann and Steve. They met at their church in Cambridge, Massachusetts, but both grew up in Boise, Idaho. It wasn’t long before they both knew—this was it. After a few months and a pizza ring (yes, a pizza ring), these two made it wedding official.

Give us the details! When? Where? How?

His game plan was to propose to me where our first kiss was, along the Charles River, but the weather foiled that plan because it was raining cats and dogs that night. So he ended up proposing to me in my kitchen. And gave me a joke engagement ring—a sterling silver ring with a slice of pizza on it.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

It’s been really fun connecting with family and friends. Also, my friend is making my wedding dress, so it has been so fun to plan with her.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I’ve taken the advice to only super care about a few things, and let my mom and Steve’s mom carry/delegate/take care of the rest. So, I’ve decided to care about the dress, invitations, venue, and letting the rest go to the hands of other great people.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

I love the clean lines of the Joy website. I’ve received several compliments on the layout and design of it.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Don’t ask too many RSVP questions. If there are too many, I think it acts as a deterrent. We cut a few.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Steve and I are really excited to continue a married life together. As part of our religious tradition, we believe that marriage can last eternally, and we are so grateful we are creating a marriage relationship that is built on love and partnership. And those things bring us joy.
