Joy Proposal Story: Elizabeth & Joshua

Joy Proposal Story: Elizabeth & Joshua

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

I love history and politics, and we both love Thomas Jefferson, so we have always talked about getting engaged at the Jefferson Memorial. He had been hinting at a trip to Washington, D.C. in the weeks leading up to the proposal, so I was convinced he was doing it in early July! We had plans to get brunch with friends on Sunday, June 24. On Saturday, he took me to get my hair done, got me a new dress, and insisted I get my nails done as a “trial run for D.C.,” (which should have tipped me off considering I get French nails, which look the same every time). The next morning, I was running late for brunch, so Joshua texted me from the car to say we had to leave. When I walked out of my house in a hurry, Joshua was on the front porch in a full suit. Joshua kissed my forehead, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him! It’s hard to surprise me. I hate surprises and I love snooping. Somehow, he pulled it off, and I was totally shocked.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

We started to plan a wedding but quickly realized neither of us wanted that. Instead, we decided to have an intimate ceremony in Europe that would double as our honeymoon. Picking the destination was so much fun! When I told him I wanted to go to Prague, his face lit up. Prague is his favorite city.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I couldn’t! I had migraines over picking a venue and I knew it would only get worse from there. Taking the guest list, wedding party and per person minimums out of the equation have made wedding planning a truly fun experience for both of us.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

I love how many options there are. Other sites have a variety of options, but they get confusing and expensive. Making our wedding website was so easy but it looks like we spent endless hours on it. The app is great too!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Do it together! It’s so much fun to write your story, pick the photos, and design your website together.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

We decided a traditional wedding was not worth the time, energy or money, and we could not be happier with our decision. Whether you get married at the Plaza Hotel or at the Courthouse, your day is your day! I truly believe couples feel pressured to have the perfect wedding, but in the end, your happiness is more important than a party.
