Joy Proposal Story: Kayla & Si

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

After a long battle with immigration, we were laying on the couch one evening and I said, “Why don’t we just get married?”. We both knew this was it.
Six days later I went to work, like always, at 10 in the morning. By 2pm I was feigning a headache and left work early. I picked up the ring that I had ordered for him two days earlier and put on my dress that I bought the day before. Next thing I knew we were on the beach with a marriage commissioner and two of our best friends, pledging to spend the rest of our lives together. We hadn’t told a soul. It was terrifying and wonderful all at once. We shocked our families with the news, and now we’re planning our celebration!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Gabbing with my girlfriends about stupid girl stuff!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

By keeping it as simple and humanly as possible. The point of our wedding is to bring our families together, for what might be the one and only time, since his family lives in the U.K. and mine in Canada. Sure, I want to look pretty and walk down the aisle, I want to dance and laugh and bring champagne, but I am remembering the true purpose of our wedding. It’s not about the linens and flowers, it’s the love we have for our favorite people and the love we have for each other.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

The anticipation! Putting all the details in one place gets me super excited for the actual day.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Use the customization features to really reflect what you want and who you are as a couple. Don’t just follow the status quo!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

It’s not about joy as a whole. The joyful moments that you find unexpectedly in every day is what it’s all about.
