Megan and Garrett had mutual friends in college. Garrett’s roommate was seeing one of Megan’s friends, and the girls went over to hang out with Garrett and his roommate one night. Megan made the first move and asked for Garrett’s number. They stayed friends and started dating officially two and a half years later. The rest, you know, is history!
Give us the details! When? Where? How?
My favorite restaurant is in Ames where we went to college. We sometimes take the 20 minute trip up to Ames just to go to this restaurant. So this was one of those times. I have been out of college for about a year now and Garrett graduated about 3 years ago so it it weird driving into our college town since everything is expanding so rapidly. We decided we would walk around campus after dinner to see the changes there. As we were walking we were reminiscing about classes and buildings and noticing one brand new building.
When we got to the Campanile at the center of campus Garrett walked me up to it and got down on one knee, the grass was wet and it was dark so I thought he was falling and I tried to save him. Luckily he didn’t need saving and it made us laugh a little before he asked me to marry him. I of course said yes and once we got back into the light I was delighted with my ring! He had also set up a little get together with some of our mutual friends and family at a bar near our house afterwards so I got to tell my mom and sister right away!
What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?
I like going to other weddings and getting fun ideas and thinking, “Hey we could do that!” or “I think I would do that a different way.” I used to do that anyway, but now it is actually part of the planning process!
How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?
We spend time every day together, usually while cooking dinner, where we don’t talk about the wedding at all. Being able to step away and not have everything be about that day is nice.
What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?
It is super customizable to what you think your guests will need so it is really nice to take things out that you won’t or add in things that you know your guests will need!
At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?
While all of this wedding stuff is crazy there is one thing keeping me sane: I get to be Mrs. Beach forever once this is done. This is really just a fun start to a whole new chapter in our lives!
