Joy Proposal Story: Tim & Lauren

by Cali Pitchel

Tim and Lauren first met through their mutual friend, Eric, who Lauren knew growing up and who Tim met in college. Tim would visit Lauren’s hometown during the summer and happened into her house where I was having a party. They remained friendly throughout college, running into each other here and there, before they both ended up in Boston.

Eric unknowingly played match maker when he asked Tim to reach out to Lauren to make sure I was having fun in my new town. As fate would have it, Tim ended up living right next door to her! They ended up getting to know each other better over the next few months, then decided to take things further and start dating. Dating led to love—and the rest is history.

Give us the details! When? Where? How?

We had been planning a trip to London and Paris for the entire year.  Tim had known he wanted to propose in Paris because it was where my grandmother grew up and was where she met my grandfather when he was there as a US soldier in WW2. Tim thought this special connection was the perfect backdrop for this moment.  After spending time in London we headed to Paris where I promptly got the flu. The day before he proposed we embarked on an adventure to find where my grandmother lived, and where they met and fell in love which was really special.  The next day (I was finally healthy!), Tim and I went to Versailles and ended the evening sipping champagne along the Seine.

Your wedding day is like the exclamation mark of the last sentence of the beginning of your love story—everything else is the exciting next chapter!

We got back to our hotel room and Tim asked me to come out to our private balcony where he said the sweetest things.  I reciprocated, totally unaware as to what was happening until he got down on one knee and popped the question.  I said yes, we popped champagne and spent the next day wandering around Paris totally in love and excited for the adventures to come.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Getting to spend more time with my best friend and maid of honor who lives across the country. It has been so much fun talking and planning with her and my mom!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Tim and I built this crazy Excel sheet to keep track of everything.  Tim built a special page with macros where if you click on a heart, a picture of a puppy comes up. Dorky, I know, but those puppies really help!
