Joy Proposal Story: Vivian & Josh

by Kelsey Vickers

How did the two of you meet?

We met while working for the same company. Josh saw me talking to a mutual friend at work and once I walked away, he asked the mutual friend to introduce us. Our friend apparently took too long and Josh took matters into his own hands!

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

According to Josh, he knew he wanted to marry me just two weeks after we met. Three months into our relationship, Josh got transferred to his company’s London office and I stayed in New York City. We visited each other frequently. Sometimes these visits lasted only 36 hours and sometimes they were week-long vacations. We took a vacation with my family to Eastern Europe and while in Prague, my father had a four-hour conversation with Josh. At this time, my father said no when Josh asked for his blessing to marry me! My father made several demands that if met, Josh could ask for his blessing again.

“Joy is exactly what I feel in my future husband’s arms. Saying “I do” on my wedding day means that I get to have that feeling every day, for the rest of my life.”

One demand was to move back to New York. Josh would do anything for me, so it was an easy decision to move back. After being back for 6 months Josh asked my father again for his blessing. This time, my father made him write about his feelings for me, his five-year plan, etc. Josh finally earned the blessing of my father, and immediately put his proposal plans in motion. He purchased last minute opera tickets to Romeo & Juliette at the Metropolitan Opera House. He then asked one of my friends to pretend the tickets were hers and that her husband was to stick to attend. I totally fell for it! Josh and I had dinner near the opera house and that same friend secretly waited nearby to take pictures.  Right in front of the Metropolitan Opera House, on a beautiful snowy night, Josh got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He chose that spot because it was there that he first realized that he was in love with me.
