Joy Proposal Story: Kendall & Austin

by Cali Pitchel

Kendall and Austin met in college. It was Kendall’s freshman year and Austin’s junior year. There was a school event called the Plug In Picnic where all the school clubs get together and try to get new members. Austin was reluctantly helping at one of the booths when Kendall approached. The very first thing he said to her was, “Hi! Welcome to…wow your eyes are beau-amazing…your eyes are amazing.” They kept running into each other around campus, became best friends, and started dating a few months later. The rest, as they say, is history!

Who proposed? Give us the details!

On April 16th 2016, Austin proposed to me. We had been looking at rings together, and I had narrowed it down to three different settings I loved. I let him pick the final one so it would be a surprise. We went out to Coeur d’Alene and had a normal day exploring. Then he wanted to watch the sunset from Tubbs Hill. He had a very specific spot picked out where he wanted to watch the sunset from, and then he got down on one knee! Little did I know that my dad was hiding nearby taking pictures of the whole thing, and my close friends and family were on the dock of the resort watching it all happen!

What have been your favorite parts of wedding planning so far?

My favorite experience planning the wedding has been venue tours—they were really fun to go on. I loved imagining us on our actual day. I also loved the catering meetings because of the free tastings!

How do you stay sane under the pressure of wedding planning?

We laugh a lot and remember that the marriage is more important than the wedding itself and we don’t stress all the minor details.

What advice would you give to a couple using Joy?

Just play around with it and try different things until you have a site you love!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy should last forever. What does that mean to you?

To me that means that we made a commitment to each other, not to just be in love on our wedding day, but to be in love and show love to one another for the rest of our lives.
