Joy Proposal Story: Caroline & Jared

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

Their love of wine (Jared is the first guy Caroline has dated that fully owns up to loving Chardonnay), food, and travel brought them to France (Burgundy specifically) where Jared popped the question after a picnic in the Chevalier-Montrachet Chardonnay vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet. The proposal was almost flawless, Jared remained calm, cool and collected throughout the day, giving Caroline no reason to think this was anything more than a typical romantic picnic in France! After a solid hour of drinking wine, enjoying their picnic and the views with not a soul in site, Jared got down on one knee at the exact moment that a vineyard worker in a truck pulled up and needed us to move our car so he could get by! Jared handed Caroline the ring box, told her he would “be right back” and went to move the car. He returned to the vineyard saying, “let’s try that again” getting back down on one knee. He asked her to drink Chardonnay with him forever. After many “oh my god’s” Caroline said an emphatic, “Yes!”. Upon which another visitor happened to pop into the vineyard at that very moment, a couple traveling from Rotterdam. Caroline and Jared happily toasted Champagne with their new friends, a wonderful sign that this happily married couple of 40 years were the first people they encountered after the proposal. While Caroline fully expected that to be the final surprise, Jared had more in store. After another wine tasting, they drove back into the city of Beaune, where Caroline’s mom was waiting at a restaurant. A spot Caroline and her mom had enjoyed together four years earlier! She had flown from California to be a part of the surprise. Early on, mom told Jared, “We’re a package deal” and he delightfully obliged.
