Joy Proposal Story: Halley & Ivan

by Kelsey Vickers

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

Ivan and I were staying in Traverse City, Michigan. I am an amateur photographer so he promised to bring me to Pyramid Point (part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes) for some photography. After we hiked up the icy hill and braved the bitter wind, we were staring out onto gorgeous Lake Michigan. It was at that point that Ivan turned to me, got down on one knee, and proposed. It was simple, sweet, and perfect for us.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Creating our centerpieces. Ivan has been wonderful and hands-on, he wanted to make DIY centerpieces. He actually went with me to pick up PVC tubes and burned them to the point that they look like antique vases. We are going to decorate them with flowers and greenery inside and out! He even drilled holes in the sides to stick flowers in through the vase.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Staying sane under the pressures of wedding planning includes… video games, snuggles, long walks, ice cream, adventuring, playing with pets, more ice cream, photography, jamming to music, and just a little more ice cream.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

So far, Joy is helping us consolidate all of our wedding information into one easy location for all of our guests. It’s so difficult when family comes from different parts of the state and country, so having everything one click away makes life a lot easier.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Click through all of the settings. When I first signed up, I simply assumed that there wouldn’t be much more than a few basic templates and a spot for some photos. But soon after clicking I realized I could set up RSVPs, link our registry, set up information for the wedding and link it under a private code only my guests can have, and more! Joy thought of everything that I would have run into months down the road, so if you keep clicking through the settings, you’ll save yourself lots of time.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

The wedding is simply a symbol of our everlasting happiness. Before, during, and after the wedding, joy exists. While there will be hard, long days, joy still lives within special relationships. Joy doesn’t begin on the wedding day and it doesn’t end on the wedding day. It just exists, as long as the couple works hard for it.
