Joy Proposal Story: Hannah & Samuel

by Kelsey Vickers

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

We live about an hour from the waterfall featured in Tuck Everlasting. We drove there during a week-long stay-cation I took and hiked to the falls. It was gorgeous (and freezing)! Sam was acting strange and disappeared for a little while before coming back and asking me to go under the falls with him. The water was up to my shoulders, the falls roaring around us, and Sam tried to get down on one knee! The water overtook his head. Laughing, I pulled him back up to kiss me. He asked me to marry him, and I said, “Yes!” When we left the falls, both of us crying, he announced to the whole place that he was going to marry me.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

I really love our venue! We chose a public market that we frequent twice or three times a month, and my favorite part of planning the wedding has been going back there with Sam, talking wedding shop over handmade crepes.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Sam has helped tremendously with this! He is so ridiculously goofy that he reminds me to laugh and enjoy the process. It also helps, as weird as it sounds, that I am really busy with the rest of my life. The wedding takes last priority to schoolwork and lifestyle changes, so it’s normally the thing I do to procrastinate the other stuff!

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

I really love how organized it makes me feel. Excel spreadsheets are great, but having all of my planning reflected in one website, available for everyone to view, is really rewarding.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Take your time! I started shopping around for a website service two weeks after we got engaged, decided on Joy in September 2016, and came back to finish it in April of 2017! It really allowed me to see its potential as I planned other things, and realized that Joy could help me inform my guests about it!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

I am not only planning for my wedding but for what I hope is a pretty freaking awesome marriage!
