Joy Proposal Story: John & Jess

Joy Proposal Story: John & Jess

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

We were hiking at Lost Maples State Park in Central Texas. We have been there before, so we knew the good spots. I thought something was up because John made sure I got my nails done the day before. I remember mentioning this was important, but it didn’t quite connect since we were going camping. We hiked up the steep side of the viewpoint trail and stopped at one of the overlooks on the map. Nothing. Then we went on and stopped at another overlook. Still nothing! I figured my senses were off. We went on and took another break on the other side of the ridge on a bench (not on the map, but John had remembered). Eventually, John pretended to look for a snack, but pulled out a velvet ring box! He got down and proposed (I had to remind him he was supposed to be on one knee), and the bench was really high – he said it was like I was towering above him! Then the ring wouldn’t really fit because my fingers were swollen from all the difficult hiking! In the end, it was perfect and I wouldn’t have changed a moment.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Finding the venue and maybe cake tasting.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

John has been really involved which was very natural for both of us. We are both designers and pretty good at communicating, staying organized, and making decisions. It is a lot, but on the whole, we have enjoyed it!
