Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?
Russ proposed on our yearly vacation with his family in Destin, Florida. I thought it was a little out of the ordinary when he wanted to go to dinner, just us two, one evening but was excited for date night so I didn’t think about it much more than that. Close to sunset we headed to dinner at Marina Cafe. The restaurant is right on the water, harbor side.
We ordered a fancy bottle of wine and in hindsight Russ was too nervous to eat much! After dinner, Russ suggested we walk down to the pier. We walked for a minute, just looking at the big boats, then Russ grabs my arm and says, “Wait. Stop for a minute.” I turn around and he’s standing there with the biggest smile. He chuckles, pulls a box out of his pocket and asks me to marry him.
Through the ups and downs, laughs and fights, the overwhelming comfort and joy that comes from committing the rest of your lives to one another is indescribable.
I, of course, say yes and while we stood there letting engagement sink in, thinking we were alone, a wonderful person looks down over their balcony and sends us our first “Congratulations!” The evening after that was a blur of a surprise family party back at the condo.
What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?
My favorite part of wedding planning has been how much I talk to my mom/grandmother/sister/sister-in-law/best friends. The conversation might start with wedding questions but always turns into hours and afternoons of great girl time.
How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?
When wedding planning gets crazy, I always remind myself that this is the best time of my life so far. Little girls dream of the day they get to plan their wedding, and I’m actually doing it! When that doesn’t work, I stop, breath, pour a glass of wine and tell myself that there is always another day and another vendor.
