Joy Proposal Story: Thalia &Trey

by Allie Grampa

After several months of missed connections, these two finally met up and have been inseparable ever since!

Give us the details! When? Where? How?

It only took us about a month to figure out it wasn’t a question of if we were going to get married, but when. A little before our first anniversary Trey and I went to look at rings. We narrowed it down to two, and, before leaving for a road trip the next day, he told me he’d picked one at lunch. So, essentially, I just had to sit and wait. Have I mentioned I’m not a super patient person when it comes to something I really want? Well, I’m not.

So, about two months later, when I knew the ring was ready to be picked up, I was dyyyyyiiiinnnng. Every event we went to, every night out with friends, every trip, every dinner I thought, ‘ok, this is it!’ Except, it never was. I knew he was determined to surprise me on the ‘when’ of when it was happening, but the anticipation was torture.

One night, about a month after the ring was ready, we went to a concert and a bar afterward with friends. My best friend suggested we should do brunch the next day with another friend. Of course, I said yes because…BRUNCH! The next morning I barely pulled on real clothes and brushed my hair before my friends picked me up for brunch. Which is disappointing because, under the guise of them meeting Trey’s and my new cats, we all went back to my house after we ate and lo and behold, as soon as we walked in the door, there was Trey all dressed up and ready to propose. At first I wasn’t sure what was going on. Why was he dressed up? Why was the house suddenly so clean?!

But, as soon as a few other friends popped out of our kitchen with their phones ready to film, I figured it out. The proposal itself was short and sweet because he was so nervous. (I can’t imagine why because he knew I was going to say yes!) We both cried, I yelled at my friends for not telling me to put something cuter on, I cried some more, he got excited when everyone loved my ring, we all drank my favorite champagne, and I cried some more that all these people I loved had come together to pull off this surprise. It was definitely a day worth waiting for!

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Having two of my best friends as my maids of honor. They are both beyond crafty, much more so than I, and have already thought of a million different ways to make the day unique. Also, having Trey putting in his two cents. When we first discussed getting married he was very much ‘the wedding is all about you, I’ll go with whatever you want.’ But, as we actually started planning he’s been really involved and I love seeing that he’s excited for it to all come together as much as I am.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Lists. Lots and lots of lists. Checking things off of to-do lists is very calming to me.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy should last forever. What does that mean to you?

Our wedding day may be a great day, but it’s not just *that* day that is going to be great. That one day will be the day that leads to the lifetime of great and happy days we will have together. That day will only be just the beginning.
