What’s a Honeymoon Registry?
A honeymoon registry lets couples ask wedding guests to contribute towards their honeymoon instead of (or in addition to) traditional household gifts. Rather than registering for a toaster or a set of towels, couples create funds for flights, hotel stays, excursions, spa treatments, and other travel experiences they actually want.
It’s simple: guests contribute to something meaningful, and couples kick off married life with an unforgettable trip instead of getting duplicates of things they already have.
Honeymoon Fund vs. Cash Fund vs. Traditional Registry
These terms can overlap, so here’s what each one means:
Honeymoon fund. A cash fund set aside for travel. Guests can contribute to a specific trip or experience, such as a “Beach Resort Stay” or “Paris Dinner Cruise.” The couple decides how specific or general each fund is.
Cash fund. A broader category. Any fund that collects cash gifts—whether it’s for a honeymoon, a house down payment, a date night, or anything else the couple wants. A honeymoon fund is one kind of cash fund.
Traditional registry. A curated list of physical gifts from retail partners. Guests select an item, purchase it, and it ships to the couple.
Most modern couples use a mix. A wedding registry that features physical gifts, honeymoon funds, and other cash funds lets guests contribute in the way that feels right for them, at any price point they’re comfortable with.
Why combine them? Pairing a honeymoon fund with a traditional gift registry means guests who prefer to pick out a physical present can still do so, while those who would rather contribute to an experience have that option. One registry, every kind of gift.
How a Honeymoon Registry Works
It only takes a few minutes to set up a honeymoon fund. On the Registry page, go to the Gifts tab, click “Add Gift,” and then select “Add Cash Fund.” That’s your starting point for any cash fund, whether it’s for your honeymoon or something else.
From there, name your fund, add a photo, write a short note explaining what the fund is for, and set a goal amount. You can create as many individual funds as you need. Some couples set up a single “Honeymoon Fund” with a lump sum goal, while others break it down into specific items: “Flights to Bali,” “Overwater Bungalow,” “Sunset Sailing Tour.”
Every fund you create appears alongside physical gifts in your all-in-one registry, so guests see everything in one place. No separate honeymoon registry site, no extra logins.

Payment Options
When you set up a cash fund, you decide how guests can contribute. Your options include:
Credit or debit card. Guests pay right on your registry page. Payments are securely processed through Stripe and collected in your Joy Wallet, which you can transfer to your bank account or debit card whenever you’re ready. Learn more about credit card contributions.
Venmo, PayPal, or Cash App. Link your account username, and guests will be directed to the platform to complete their payment. Joy doesn’t charge any fees for these transactions.
Cash or cheque. Guests receive your mailing address and can send their gift directly.
You can enable several payment options for one fund. For example, offer both credit card and Venmo so guests can pick whatever works best for them.
No fees on cash gifts. Contributions made through Venmo, PayPal, and Cash App have no fees from Joy. For credit card contributions, standard processing fees (charged by Stripe) apply, but Joy doesn’t take a cut. To avoid all fees, link Venmo or PayPal.
What You Can Include in a Honeymoon Fund
A honeymoon fund is as flexible as the trip you’re planning. There are no restrictions on what your funds represent, so you can tailor them to match your actual itinerary or keep them general.
Top Honeymoon Fund Ideas
Flights and transportation. “Round-Trip Flights to Italy,” “Airport Transfers,” “Train Passes.”
Accommodations: “Overwater Bungalow in Bora Bora,” “Boutique Hotel in Lisbon,” “Airbnb in Tokyo.”
Dining and food experiences. “Romantic Dinner for Two,” “Cooking Class in Tuscany,” “Street Food Tour.”
Activities and excursions. “Snorkelling Trip,” “Guided Hike,” “Sunset Sail,” “Spa Day.”
General travel. “Honeymoon Fund,” an open fund that covers anything.
In addition to honeymoon-specific items, you can register for experiences through the registry shop, which features curated travel and lifestyle experiences alongside traditional gifts. Adventure, romance, culinary, relaxation—browse by category to find experiences that match your trip.
Combining Cash Funds and Physical Gifts
Your registry doesn’t have to be all or nothing. Add honeymoon funds alongside physical gifts, charity donations, and other cash funds (house fund, date night fund, pet fund) in the same registry. Guests see one unified list, organized however you prefer.
Personalize Your Cash Funds
Every cash fund is fully customizable. You can change the name, update the image, edit the description, and adjust your goal anytime—even after guests have started contributing.
Setting a Goal
There are two ways guests can contribute to a fund:
Fixed amounts. Choose a set gift amount (for example, $50). Guests can give in multiples of that amount: $50, $100, $150, and so on. This is ideal for funds with a specific goal. If you’re aiming for $1,000 and set the increment at $50, set the quantity to 20.
Any amount. Guests can enter any dollar amount they like. This gives you the most flexibility and is great for open-ended funds, like a general honeymoon fund.
You can also set a total goal amount and choose whether to display it publicly or keep it hidden. A visible goal shows guests how close the fund is to completion, which can encourage contributions. A hidden goal lets you track progress privately without the pressure of a public countdown.

Personalizing Fund Details
Write a brief note for each fund explaining what it’s for and why it’s meaningful to you. For example, “We’ve been dreaming about the Amalfi Coast since our first date” is more compelling than just “Honeymoon Fund.” A good description helps guests feel like they’re contributing to a special moment, not just giving money.
Add a photo that represents the fund. An image of the destination, resort, or experience makes the registry page more inviting and helps guests connect with where their gift is going.
How Guests Can Contribute
Guests do not need a Joy account to contribute. They visit the couple’s wedding website, open the registry, and select a fund. From there, the process depends on the payment method:
Choose an amount. Guests select from the fixed increments or enter a custom amount, depending on how the fund is set up.
Add their details. They enter their name and email so the contribution is attributed to them.
Select a payment method. Options include credit/debit card, Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, or cash/cheque, depending on what the couple has enabled.
Complete your payment. If you’re using a credit card, the transaction happens right on the page. For Venmo, PayPal, or Cash App, guests are directed to the platform to finalize payment. For cash or cheque, they receive the couple’s mailing address.
Once they’ve contributed, guests can also choose to send a personalized digital card with their gift.
The full guest experience is covered in how to contribute to a honeymoon or cash fund.
Share your registry link early. Add your wedding website URL to your save-the-dates and invitations so guests can check out your registry—including honeymoon funds—well before the big day.
Managing Your Funds
Once contributions start coming in, the Track tab on your Registry page becomes your dashboard. Here’s what you can manage from there:
Tracking Contributions
Each contribution is logged with the guest’s name, amount, and payment method. Credit card payments appear in your Joy Wallet balance. Venmo, PayPal, and Cash App contributions are sent directly to your account on those platforms and are also recorded on Joy for reference, but the platform itself is the source of truth for whether payment was received.
Transferring Funds
When guests contribute by credit card, the funds are collected in your Joy Wallet. When you're ready, you can transfer them to your bank account or debit card from the Track tab. Transfers typically arrive within three to five business days. The transfer fee is minimal and goes directly to Stripe—Joy doesn't keep any of it.
For example, if you transfer $500, about $498.30 will be deposited into your account, and $1.70 goes to Stripe for the transfer. Joy doesn't receive anything.
Editing Funds After Launch
Need to update a fund after it’s live? Click any fund on your Registry page to edit the name, image, description, goal amount, or payment methods. Changes take effect right away. If your honeymoon plans change—like upgrading from a resort to a villa—update the fund to reflect your new goal.
Multiple Funds, Multiple Payment Options
You can link different payment platforms to separate funds. For example, connect your Venmo account to one fund and PayPal to another to keep contributions organized by account. This is helpful if you want to track honeymoon funds separately from other cash gifts. For more on this approach, see linking different accounts to different funds.
Cash Funds via Messaging
Beyond your registry page, you can also request contributions through Joy Messages. Create a cash fund, attach it to a message, and send it directly to selected guests. Guests receive an email with a secure payment link. This works well for collecting funds for group accommodations, travel expenses, or any contribution outside the standard registry flow.
