What’s a Honeymoon Registry?
A honeymoon registry lets couples invite their wedding guests to chip in for their honeymoon, instead of—or together with—the usual household gifts. Instead of asking for a toaster or towels, couples can set up funds for flights, hotel stays, activities, spa sessions, and other travel experiences they really want.
It’s simple: guests chip in for something meaningful, so couples kick off married life with a trip to remember—instead of getting more of what they already have.
Honeymoon Fund, Cash Fund, or Traditional Registry
These terms can be a bit confusing, so here’s what each one means:
Honeymoon fund. A cash fund set aside for travel. Guests can contribute to a specific trip or experience, like a “Beach Resort Stay” or “Paris Dinner Cruise”. The couple decides how detailed or general each fund is.
Cash fund. This one’s more general. It’s any fund where guests can give money—whether it’s for a honeymoon, house down payment, date night, or anything else the couple wants. A honeymoon fund is just one kind of cash fund.
Traditional registry. A curated list of physical gifts from our retail partners. Guests pick an item, buy it, and it’ll be delivered to the couple.
Most modern couples use a mix. A wedding registry with physical gifts, honeymoon funds, and other cash options gives guests the flexibility to contribute in the way that suits them, at any amount they’re comfortable with.
Why combine them? Pairing a honeymoon fund with a standard gift registry lets guests who prefer to choose a physical gift do so, while those who’d rather contribute to an experience have that option too. One registry, every kind of gift.
How a Honeymoon Registry Works
Setting up a honeymoon fund is quick and easy. Just go to the Gifts tab on your Registry page, click “Add Gift,” then pick “Add Cash Fund.” That’s your starting point for any cash fund, whether it’s for your honeymoon or something else.
After that, just give your fund a name, add a photo, write a short note to explain what it’s for, and set your target amount. You can create as many separate funds as you like. Some couples go for a single “Honeymoon Fund” with one big goal, while others split it up into specific things like “Flights to Bali”, “Overwater Bungalow”, or “Sunset Sailing Tour”.
Every fund you create appears together with your physical gifts in your all-in-one registry, so guests can see everything in one place. No need for a separate honeymoon registry site or extra logins.

Payment Options
When you set up a cash fund, you get to decide how your guests can contribute. Here are the options:
Credit or debit card. Guests pay directly on your registry page. Payments are securely processed through Stripe and collected in your Joy Wallet, which you can transfer to your bank account or debit card whenever you're ready. Learn more about credit card contributions.
Venmo, PayPal, or Cash App. Just link your account username and guests will be sent straight to the platform to make payment. Joy doesn’t charge any fees for these transactions.
Cash or cheque. Guests will receive your mailing address and can send their gift directly.
You can set up multiple payment methods for one fund. For example, offer both credit card and Venmo so guests can pick whichever is easiest for them.
No fees for cash gifts. If you use Venmo, PayPal, or Cash App, Joy won’t charge any fees. For credit card payments, only the usual Stripe processing fees apply—Joy doesn’t take any commission. If you want to skip all fees, just link your Venmo or PayPal account.
What You Can Include in Your Honeymoon Fund
A honeymoon fund is just as flexible as your travel plans. There aren’t any limits on what your funds can cover, so you can customise them to fit your actual itinerary or keep things general.
Popular Honeymoon Fund Ideas
Flights and transport. “Round-trip flights to Italy”, “Airport transfers”, “Train passes”.
Accommodation. “Overwater bungalow in Bora Bora”, “Boutique hotel in Lisbon”, “Airbnb in Tokyo”.
Dining and food experiences. “Romantic Dinner for Two”, “Cooking Class in Tuscany”, “Street Food Tour”.
Activities and excursions. “Snorkelling Trip”, “Guided Hike”, “Sunset Sail”, “Spa Day”.
General travel. “Honeymoon Fund” — an open fund that covers anything.
Besides honeymoon items, you can also add experiences through the registry shop, which features curated travel and lifestyle experiences along with traditional gifts. Whether you’re after adventure, romance, food, or just want to relax—browse by category to find experiences that suit your trip.
Combining Cash Funds and Physical Gifts
Your registry doesn’t have to be all-or-nothing. Add honeymoon funds together with physical gifts, charity donations, and other cash funds (house fund, date night fund, pet fund) in the same registry. Guests will see one unified list, organised however you like.
Personalise Your Cash Funds
Every cash fund can be fully customised. You can change the name, update the image, edit the description, and tweak the goal anytime—even after guests have started contributing.
Setting a Goal
You have two ways for guests to contribute to a fund:
Fixed amounts. Set a specific gift amount (like $50). Guests can give in multiples of that amount: $50, $100, $150, and so on. This is great for funds with a clear target. For example, if you’re aiming for $1,000 and each increment is $50, just set the quantity to 20.
Any amount. Guests can give any amount they like. This gives the most flexibility and is perfect for open-ended funds, like a general honeymoon contribution.
You can also set a total goal amount and choose whether to show it to everyone or keep it private. If the goal is visible, guests can see how close the fund is to being completed, which may encourage them to contribute. If you keep it hidden, you can track the progress privately without the pressure of a public countdown.
For more details on setting up your goals, see our cash fund goal options.
Personalising Fund Details
Add a short note for each fund to share what it’s for and why it’s meaningful to you. Something like “We’ve been dreaming of the Amalfi Coast since our first date” feels more personal than just “Honeymoon Fund.” A thoughtful description helps your guests feel like they’re part of a special moment, not just giving you money.
Upload a photo that shows what the fund is for. A picture of the destination, resort, or experience will make your registry page more appealing and let guests see exactly what they’re contributing to.
How Guests Can Chip In
Guests don’t need a Joy account to chip in. Just head over to the couple’s wedding website, open the registry, and pick a fund. After that, the steps will depend on which payment method you choose:
Pick an amount. Guests can choose from preset options or key in their own amount, depending on how the fund is set up.
Fill in their details. They’ll enter their name and email so the contribution is credited to them.
Choose a payment method. Options include credit/debit card, Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, or cash/cheque, depending on what the couple has enabled.
Settle the payment. If you're using a credit card, you can pay directly on the page. For Venmo, PayPal, or Cash App, you'll be redirected to those platforms to complete your payment. If you choose cash or cheque, you'll receive the couple's mailing address.
After making your contribution, you can also choose to send a personalised digital card together with your gift.
The full guest experience is covered in how to contribute to a honeymoon or cash fund.
Share your registry link early. Add your wedding website URL to your save-the-dates and invites, so guests can check out your registry—including honeymoon funds—way before the big day.
Managing Your Funds
Once contributions start coming in, the Track tab on your Registry page becomes your dashboard. Here is what you can manage from there:
Track Contributions
Each contribution is recorded with the guest’s name, amount, and payment method. Credit card payments will appear in your Joy Wallet balance. For Venmo, PayPal, and Cash App, the funds go directly to your account on those platforms and are also recorded on Joy for your reference. Please note, the platform itself is the best place to confirm if payment was received.
Transferring Funds
If you receive contributions via credit card, the funds will be stored in your Joy Wallet. When you're ready, transfer them to your bank account or debit card from the Track tab. Transfers usually take about three to five working days. Transfer fees are low and go directly to Stripe—Joy doesn't take any cut.
For example, if you transfer $500, you'll get about $498.30 in your account, and $1.70 goes to Stripe for the bank transfer. Joy doesn't get anything from this.
Editing Funds After Launch
Need to tweak a fund after it’s live? Just click on any fund in your Registry page to edit the name, image, description, goal amount, or payment methods. Updates happen straight away. If your honeymoon plans change—like switching from a resort to a villa—just update the fund to match your new goal.
Multiple Funds, Multiple Payment Platforms
You can link different payment platforms to different funds. For example, connect your Venmo account to one fund and PayPal to another, so it’s easier to keep contributions organised by account. This is useful if you want to track your honeymoon fund separately from other cash gifts. For more details, see linking different accounts to different funds.
Cash Funds via Messaging
Besides the registry page, you can also ask for contributions using Joy Messages. Just set up a cash fund, link it to a message, and send it straight to your chosen guests. They’ll get an email with a secure payment link. This is great for pooling funds for group stays, travel costs, or any contributions outside the usual registry.
