Joy Proposal Story: Stephanie & Jacob

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

I had been testing for work in Mount Pleasant. On Thursday of that week, Jacob told me to take off Good Friday because he had it off and he wanted to take me up north. That Friday morning we woke up early, loaded up the truck (including Koda), and made our way to Boyne. Jacob wanted to show me his family’s property so we strolled around in the woods for a bit with Koda. After about an hour, we decided to grab lunch at a cute ice cream shop that had food. We ate out on the patio, sharing my fries with Koda. We decided to go to a park where we could walk around with Koda and allow him to play in the lake a little. Jake decided he wanted to take me to his “favorite beach,” so we loaded back up into the truck and drove to a smaller area with sand and a short pier. We walked out onto the pier by the rock wall and watched the ducks in the water. It felt so awkward! We are never awkward! We didn’t really talk, we just looked at the water and alternated between sitting and standing. At one point, I sat down on the rocks to take pictures, and Jake decided to sit down too. He didn’t stay down long, and I suggested we go to a nearby bench. Standing up, Jake “hurt his knee” (which I totally believed) and he got down on one knee and started rubbing it saying he wasn’t okay when I asked.  I suggested we go over to the bench and he could stretch it out. I reached for his arm to help him stand and Jake grabbed my arm saying, “But first…” and he pulled the ring out of his back pocket! I didn’t cry, but I didn’t believe it was happening.  Of course, I said, “Yes!”.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Being able to see my vision come to life!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Wedding planning is a stress reliever for me actually! But, if I’m ever feeling overwhelmed I talk to my best friend about the issue I’m having. She provides insight on how to solve the problem or gives her opinion to help come to a conclusion.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Joy is being married to your best friend, the person who has been with you through thick and thin, the ups and downs. This person knows your strongest moments, weakest points, and you know theirs. They work with you to make a relationship work and in the end, the relationship isn’t work.
