Joy Proposal Story: Brandon & Lauren

by Cali Pitchel

How did the two of you meet?

We met on a youth and family internship through our church where we worked with teenagers.

How long have you been together?

We met in May of 2015 and have been together since September of 2016!
I love the idea that “even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever”- it’s a great reminder that no matter what is going on, we will always have joy because we are together!

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

Brandon asked me on a double date about two weeks before he proposed, and the plan was to walk around and take fun pictures together. He told me that he had an important family appointment before the date, so I would ride with the other couple and meet him at the Meadowlark Botanical Garden on May 20th. As I walked around the park with two of my friends to find Brandon, who was “reserving the spot”, we turned the corner and saw a host of people. At the end of the two lines of people, Brandon was standing at the top of the steps of the Korean Bell Tower, with flowers in hand. I knew as soon as I saw him that he was going to propose, and I was immediately overwhelmed with excitement and gratitude as I walked towards him. After hugging and greeting our friends, I walked up to him and he told me how much he loved me, and then got on one knee and proposed! – Lauren

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Being able to work together to see a vision come to fruition has been awesome! I love how much we are on the same page, and seeing the simple elegance of our theme be connected and better each day. – Brandon

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

Lots of prayer and time each day to plan and stay organized! We also have a lot of friends and family that are willing to help, and help remind us that at the end of the day this wedding is about us.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Use all the parts of Joy and get it set up early!
