Joy Proposal Story: Corinne & Ryan

Joy Proposal Story: Corinne & Ryan

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

Ryan surprised me with a trip to Easter Island while we were traveling across South America for ten months. It had always been a dream of mine to go to Rapa Nui (Easter Island) since I was in college. I never dreamt of going because of how expensive it is. When Ryan surprised me with a trip there, I thought it was the best Christmas present ever! Little did I know, two days later, he would reveal his biggest surprise of all. After a ‘Corinne-and-Ryan’ day of slow morning time to enjoy breakfast, reading the Bible, and sipping mate, we set off to hike a volcanic crater and explore the island. At the end of the day, Ryan and I made our way to the cliff side to watch the surfers at sunset. As we sat down on the cliff and sipped a bottle of wine, Ryan explained why this trip was so special to him and asked if I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. It was a no-brainer for me, and I immediately started crying and choked out, “YES!” in between sobs.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Ryan and I have had so much fun planning the wedding ourselves. While we were abroad, we spent about three weeks while in Uruguay to plan the majority of our wedding. We contacted all of the people we knew in Hawaii and started organizing our ideas. It was great to be able to plan the wedding together and really figure out what was important to us without the influence of others.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

We got engaged in December of 2017 and decided to plan the wedding for May of 2018. That’s not a whole lot of time to plan everything! How we stayed sane was just by keeping it simple. We decided to have only family come to our wedding (about 20 on my side and 20 on his side), so the guest list isn’t intimidating. We’ll get married at our local church in Hawaii and have a small reception with family and some island friends up on a farm up in Holualoa.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

I loved being able to match the different themes with the style of our wedding. I also enjoyed sharing our story and the small details about our wedding on the site. All the details, fonts, themes are specialized and I love that!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

I would suggest taking some time to think about everything you would want your guests to know before arriving. Having an example schedule really helped me think about all the small details I wanted to let my guests know about beforehand.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you

I love this. Of course, joy is a result of what happens on your wedding day. However, having joy is something I hope to carry with me every day of my marriage and for the rest of my life.
