Joy Proposal Story: Kayla & Jeffrey

by Allie Grampa

How did the two of you meet?

I work as a nurse and one day at work I cared for a wonderful patient in the hospital. After a few days of caring for her, she asked me if I was single. I informed her I was and she told me she had a nephew I’d be perfect for! She wrote down my name to give to him so he could look me up. A few months later, I received a message from him asking if I was that “cute nurse” his aunt had been telling him about. We went on a blind date and hit it off instantly. The rest is history.

Give us the details! When? Where? How?

He told me he was taking me to dinner for my birthday but we had to make a quick stop. He took me to the exact spot we saw one another on our very first blind date. He said, “Right here is where I saw you for the first time; I knew at that very moment you’d be the woman I’d spend the rest of my life with.” He asked me to marry him, we both cried. I said yes of course!

When each of you loves one another with your whole heart, there is just something beautiful about that.

He took me to dinner at the Firefly, a fancy restaurant where we enjoyed our first date! When we walked into the restaurant, he took me into the wine cellar where my parents and his, along with his aunt who introduced us, were all waiting to celebrate with a champagne toast. I lost it. The day was absolutely perfect.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Planning our honeymoon! We are going on a 2 week vacation to Thailand to celebrate after our wedding. Neither of us has traveled to Asia and we have never been on a vacation just the two of us.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

We focus on the fact that the wedding is just a day. Your marriage is a lifetime. We’d much rather have a happy life than one happy day. Focusing on the bigger picture makes the wedding day seem less stressful.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy should last forever. What does that mean to you?

Joy can last forever if you are marrying the right person. Someone once told me, “Marry someone who loves you, not just a man you love.” When each of you loves one another with your whole heart, there is just something beautiful about that.
