Joy Proposal Story: Timothy & Jennifer

Joy Proposal Story: Timothy & Jennifer

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

I was home (in St. Louis) for a long Fourth of July weekend from my internship in Oklahoma. We were driving home from my niece’s birthday party, but Tim “missed” our exit off the highway. He kept driving and I somewhat stopped paying attention until we ended up in a parking lot of a restaurant. It was about dinner time, so Tim suggested we eat there. I started getting a little suspicious when I found out it was a beautiful French restaurant, where we sat outside with a view of the Arch. When Tim let me get wine, an appetizer, entree, and dessert… I knew something was up! I decided to play along so I wouldn’t ruin his plan. After a lovely meal, we made our way back outside to find a horse-drawn carriage waiting for us. After taking a few pictures we got inside and our carriage driver mentioned that it was a beautiful night for a baseball game. Turns out, we were heading to the Cardinals game. I got a little nervous because I wasn’t sure I wanted to be proposed to on a Jumbotron in front of the entire stadium! Fortunately, while we were riding along, Tim got down on one knee inside the carriage. Neither of us remembers exactly what he said, but he asked me to marry him, to which I replied, “Of course!”. After a few tears and selfies, we reached the stadium. Tim hadn’t told our carriage driver that he was planning on proposing, so she made us reenact the proposal for a picture, which honestly was a lot of fun because the many people walking into the stadium cheered and congratulated us! We got to celebrate by attending the game with seats right behind the Cardinals’ dugout. The entire evening was a dream and I’m so thankful Timothy asked me to marry him in such a thoughtful way.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

I loved handing out Save the Dates! For many of my college friends, I hand delivered them and it was so fun to see everyone so excited for me to be getting married and to be invited.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I’ve had to tell myself from time to time that what really matters most is our marriage and not our wedding. Yes, we want to celebrate and have a great day with family and friends but ultimately, I should be preparing myself for marriage more than I should be for my wedding. For us, this means praying for each other and with each other and also taking time to have important conversations.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

Joy is so beautiful! It’s super easy to use and make it my own and it has everything I could ever want in a wedding website!

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

Use Blueprint registry! Tim and I loved being able to pick whatever we wanted and not just from three or four specific places.  Joy integrates Blueprint registry into the website really well!

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

Getting married is about starting a life and a family together. Not every day will be easy, but no matter what, it will be joyful. On my wedding day, I am committing to my future spouse for the rest of my life. Through the ups and downs and everything in between! Marriage isn’t about finding the “perfect” person for you, but someone who you are willing to love and commit to with all their flaws and imperfections. Marriage is about giving the gift of yourself to your spouse. The gift of your love and commitment, no matter what life throws at you.
