Canadian Newlyweds Ashley and Jordan share that taking a small moment together to reflect after the ceremony and meal was the most memorable part of their day.
First off, congrats! What is your most memorable moment from the wedding?
At one point in the evening after the ceremony, dinner, speeches, and everything was done, we decided to sneak up to the rooftop to capture a few night-time photos. We grabbed a bottle of wine and two glasses, and after our photographer captured some of our favorite photos, the two of us stayed there for a while overlooking the Elora Gorge and reflected on how amazing the day was and how happy we were. It’s easy to get caught up in the chaos of the day, so just taking that small moment together was easily the most memorable.
What were the colors of your wedding?
Ivory, pale blues and pale greens.
What do you think worked really well at your wedding that you would recommend every couple to do?
We decided to have a few speeches at our wedding but we had our family and friends speak during the meal. That way people didn’t have to stay sitting after dinner to listen to speeches. It kept the night moving and I think it made our guests happy, too! We also decided to use a ton of floral and greenery instead of using a lot of decor items. For example, instead of drapery behind the head table, we had a wall of greenery! It just really helped with our vision of having a simple and romantic style wedding!
Would you have done anything differently—splurge on a pricier dress, nix the favors, go for that extra passed appetizer?
Honestly, no! There were definitely a few things that didn’t go as planned or I thought about afterward but combined, they all made the day what it was and I don’t think I’d change anything for that reason!
What tips do you have for other Joy couples still in the midst of wedding planning?
The best decision we made was hiring a wedding planner. She was absolutely amazing and I honestly wasn’t sure at first if we really needed to hire a planner, but after our first meeting together I instantly realized how valuable she was going to be to the planning process! Our day would not have been the same without her!
What were your favorite features of Joy?
It may sound weird, but being able to convert our guest list to excel, was key! It allowed us to easily give the information to certain vendors without me having to go through and create an excel sheet myself!
At Joy we believe that although a wedding lasts one day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you and your partner?
We completely agree! Our wedding day was amazing and we love every single memory we made that day, but getting to build our life together and see where life takes us is truly what we’re most excited for.
