Real Wedding: Wendy and Sven

Real Wedding: Wendy and Sven

Belgian couple Wendy and Sven explain why they would have planned a relaxing day the day before the wedding—especially when the venue is far from home.

First off, congrats! What is your most memorable moment from the wedding?

The first look, we were looking forward to it for so long! Also, the moment that Sven played the guitar and played a song he wrote about us.

What were the colors of your wedding?

Dusty blue.

What do you think worked really well at your wedding that you would recommend every couple to do?

We waited for the right time. We were engaged for four years and this was the perfect moment! Your wedding is such a wonderful day. Also, we did a love shoot. You already get to know your photographer. You get the experience of how they work, how to pose in certain ways and it helps you feel more comfortable during the wedding day.

Would you have done anything differently—splurge on a pricier dress, nix the favors, go for that extra passed appetizer?

We would have planned a relaxing day, the day before the wedding. We had to bring all the decorations, thank-you’s, presents and flowers to the location that was not close to home.

What tips do you have for other Joy couples still in the midst of wedding planning?

Enjoy the preparations! You miss it afterward. For us, the love shoot, the dance lessons, and the cake tasting were top moments. Also, make sure to invest in a good photographer and videographer! The day is over so quickly but you can keep those wonderful moments alive through images and video.

What were your favorite features of Joy?

Everything! It was nice to integrate our photos of the love shoot. We could also give tips about the dress code, day planning, and location. Since it was a secret location for all guests, we were able to provide them with much-needed information via Joy, so that our invitation remained clear. The RSVP feature was also handy.

The olive branch was central to our wedding. A symbol for peace, love and faith. The olive tree is associated with a positive vision of the future. Something that we really strive for.

At Joy we believe that although a wedding lasts one day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you and your husband?

Celebrate the milestones and enjoy the small moments. To us, it means to make time for each other, especially because we already have children.
