Real Wedding: Angelique and Taylor

Real Wedding: Angelique and Taylor

Maryland couple Angelique and Taylor describe their wedding day that took place on their 11th anniversary.

First off, congrats! What is your most memorable moment from the wedding?

Taylor’s grandfather performed the ceremony and started without me! It was perfectly imperfect! It got everyone to laugh and was so us.

What were the colors of your wedding?

Burgundy and Gray. The bridesmaids’ dresses were a gradual change to burgundy. There were also pops of yellow!

What do you think worked really well at your wedding that you would recommend every couple to do?

I would say there were two things. The first is that we did not have favors. I was stressing about those but we did a thank you card at each place setting instead. It saved money and no one noticed or commented that we did not have favors! I used the money we saved there to go towards a videographer. Hiring a videographer was the best decision I made for the wedding. The day goes by so fast and I now have something I can go back a watch to relive that day over and over again.

Would you have done anything differently—splurge on a pricier dress, nix the favors, go for that extra passed appetizer?

I don’t think we would have done anything differently, everything fell into place and all my vendors were amazing. We probably would have tried harder to hit every table to say hello and get pictures but other than that no everything was amazing.

What tips do you have for other Joy couples still in the midst of wedding planning?

It is easier said than done, but do not stress about the small details! The only person that will know about those is you. I stressed about small things and then decided not to do them and no one noticed. My other advice is that this wedding is for you and your soon-to-be spouse. Do not stress about making other people happy or worry about impressing anyone. You should enjoy your wedding and it should represent both of you. Family and friends are there because they love you and know you! We even had pizza as a food option because we love pizza, it wasn’t traditional, but who cares! Just be you!

What were your favorite features of Joy?

I loved that everything was in one place for our guests. We had a lot of out of town people and it helped to have the links for the hotel, airport, and registries right there for them.

At Joy we believe that although a wedding lasts one day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you and your partner?

We both believe in living in the moment. Truly stopping and taking things in to remember that feeling. Memories fade but feelings are remembered. Joy to us is family. We both said that we are looking forward to having everyone in one place. With friends and family everywhere it was nice to just be in the moment with all of them. We also spent the majority of our relationship long-distance, so being able to be in the moment and together is what I will remember the most. We can look back on our day and say that it was truly perfect because we had everyone around.

We were high school sweethearts and now are finally living in the same zip code! Our wedding took place on our 11th anniversary. We spent six of our eleven years long distance, it was hard but we would not change it for the world. Our wedding allowed everyone from all the stages of our lives to be in one place. It was truly the purest form of happiness that I have ever felt. We cannot wait to continue our journey!
