Joy Proposal Story: Emily & Taylor

by Cali Pitchel

Emily and Taylor met during their junior year at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. It was a special night. Everyone was out celebrating Robert Griffin III’s Heisman Memorial Trophy win. Emily and Taylor happened to end up at the same local dive bar, Scruffy Murphys, where they were introduced through mutual friends. Five years later they’re planning a wedding!

Give us the details! When? Where? How?

We recently moved to Atlanta and Taylor surprised me with a weekend trip to Savannah. We had a blast walking around downtown Savannah and going to the beach at Tybee Island during the day. We had a dinner reservation for that night, and as we were walking to the restaurant we passed the beautiful fountain in Forsyth Park, and he completely caught me off guard by getting down on one knee!

He had arranged a local photographer to capture our moment. We kept walking past the fountain and on the other side my parents and sister and his parents were there to surprise me with beautiful flowers, my favorite champagne, and ring shaped cookies that my sister made with our engagement date written in icing!

As if this wasn’t enough, we crossed to the other side of the park and there was a horse drawn carriage which took us through the streets of downtown Savannah while we popped champagne and talked about how excited we were to be engaged! Our families met us at the restaurant The Grey, which is a former Greyhound station turned modern restaurant.

Taylor had reserved the special event space (the former Boiler Room) and my mom and sister had decorated it with pictures of the two of us, flowers, and a “she said yes” sign. We all had dinner and cocktails and had a great time!
