Joy Proposal Story: Jeri & Cody

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

He told me he wanted to finish his master’s degree before getting engaged and I thought “okay, you’re worth the wait!” I also had inherited some diamond earrings that I wanted in my engagement ring which were still in my drawer. So, why would I see it coming?

He told me weeks in advance about how his boss had reserved the loft area of a nice local restaurant for his department Christmas party. My parents came up from Florida earlier than normal for their Christmas visit, but I just thought maybe airline tickets were cheaper then. My sister-in-law invited me to get my nails done with her for the first time ever and I thought, “how nice to have some ‘sister time’ before the craziness of the holidays!”  We walked up the stairs to the restaurant loft, and I noticed his hand shaking uncontrollably. I just thought he had some social anxiety about meeting up with his co-workers. As we got to the top of the staircase, I began to recognize over 45 of our closest family and friends, who were waiting for his surprise proposal to me. I was completely blind-sided and ugly cried. There were friends from Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, even Pennsylvania! When he got down on one knee, I didn’t even hear him ask me because everyone was cheering so loudly. It wasn’t until about two minutes later that he finally remembered to give me the ring! I asked him why he didn’t use my diamonds (because I had just checked my drawer the week prior!), and he told me that I needed to look closer at the earrings in my drawer. He put decoy diamonds in my drawer to fool me! Let me tell you, it worked. I had absolutely no clue what he was up to, and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect story!
