Joy Proposal Story: Jocelyn & David

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

David was planning to fly to see me for a week on my birthday. He had sent me my birthday package about a week prior to this and asked me to bring it to the airport. When he landed, he told me he needed to open the package without me to make sure everything was right. When he got in the car, he suggested going to Manito Park to walk around after a long flight, plus it was a special place for us because he asked me to be his girlfriend there. We walked around for a while and when we got onto the bridge (where he asked me to be his girlfriend), he got down on one knee. If I’m being honest, I don’t even remember what he said! All I know is that I said, “Oh, this is happening!”. I said yes, obviously, and he put the most beautiful ring on my finger. We prayed together afterward and my aunt and uncle popped out of the bushes who had been photographing the entire thing! They did a mini-engagement shoot so we had lots of fun photos. After this, David said he rented a house for us to go to and we could FaceTime our family and friends to share the exciting news! As I walked into the supposedly empty house, I walked into all of my closest friends and family, including my brother and his girlfriend from Colorado and his parents from Kansas! We spent the night celebrating and soaking in the excitement.

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

My favorite experience has been communicating with David and how well he provides input when necessary! He also relaxes me and makes me feel loved when I’m feeling overwhelmed or stressed out.

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

I just have to remember that at the end of it all, I get to live and experience every day with David by my side, that makes it all worth it.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

The dancing, decorations, and food are fun for a day. The joy that our marriage will provide for the rest of our lives is the purpose and intent of our wedding day. Getting caught up in the little details is silly!
