Joy Proposal Story: Jofer & Vicki

Give us the proposal details! When? Where? How?

We were on Easter vacation together in Kyoto, Japan for hanami (cherry blossom) season in March 2018. At the Hirano Shrine, after saying a prayer and ringing the bell, Jofer said, “Let’s take a photo.” He set up his tripod and we posed by the torii gates. After a few seconds I was going to check on the photo but he said, “Wait!” He faced me, got down on one knee, and proposed! I was absolutely shocked because he was dealing with sciatica at the time. I was surprised that he could kneel just as much as the proposal! Of course, I said yes 🙂

What has been your favorite experience planning the wedding?

Jofer and I had a planned trip to Bali a few days after the proposal to celebrate my birthday. We both had an incredible time and decided on having our wedding celebration there! My favorite part of the planning was going back to Bali in November last year to do some ocular inspections of beautiful villas. Going back reinforced our decision of having the wedding there. Bali has so much culture, we love their food, the villas are beautiful, and their people are just lovely!

How do you stay sane under the pressures of wedding planning?

We decided to get married in 2020 to give us more time to plan and not stress about the preparations. After searching online for wedding ideas, I get to take long breaks away from the planning. Having booked an awesome wedding planner has also helped heaps.

What is your favorite part of using Joy for your wedding?

Joy was so easy to use! I loved answering the tidbits about Jofer and me.

What piece of advice would you give couples to ensure that they use Joy to its fullest potential?

I would suggest that they work on their website on their laptops – it’s so much easier. It also helps to create the site as soon as they firm up more details such as the location of their wedding.

At Joy we believe that even though a wedding lasts a day, joy lasts forever. What does that mean to you?

I totally agree! This wedding is going to be a one-day affair, but the memories and warm fuzzies that come from celebrating a special milestone together with all our loved ones will always have a special place in my heart.
